The personal story by MSNBC was hilarious. Derek Hunter should have named the reporter.

My guess is the furloughed workers are almost exclusively Democrats. Trump has no motivation to return them to work whatsoever. In fact, I bet it might “save 5%” across the board, which he said was a goal a month ago.

There is no way for the Republicans to win this. TRUMP may win, but he will do that on his own. The GOP lost the House because they showed themselves to be feckless, useless frauds on many issues -- including this one. That's why Trump has been dealing only with Schumer and Pelosi on this. Schumer doesn't even hold a majority leadership position in his house of Congress.

A federal employee foregoing a holiday is far superseded by a family losing a loved one at the hands of an illegal. The employee can have a party another time, a dead person can’t and certainly, his or her family will live with that loss for their lifetime.

How dare liberals compare government workers (who will eventually get their pay) with families that lose loved ones because of illegal immigration!

And, believe it or not, Republicans could actually end up with money for a border wall (or barrier, whatever) if only they ignore all their natural instincts and stand strong.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Any chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

Watch Mitt “Flake” Romney and Mitch “China Hand” McConnell, both who are likely to fold, and start sending Dem bills to the President.

I have no doubt that with unity, the GOP will win this battle.

I suspect the pressure on politicians is largely from Democrat government employees most of whom reside in Democrat districts.

Trump will keep to it because if he gives away he loses everything from that point on including, of course, 2020.

Aside from being rather dim-witted as a group, feckless is certainly a good word to describe much of the GOP. Other words also come to mind(i.e., pusillanimous, unctuous, duplicitous, sanctimonious, Pecksniffian, etc.) They certainly give every indication they’re part of the swamp uniparty and want the irritant and disruptive force Trump gone

more “shutdown stories,” because it’s all the left has.

Because it's dawning on the American People that you could probably shut down a lot more of the fed government and it would have no impact at all on regular folks.

Face it, the fed government is a bloated tick on the neck of the taxpayer. The shutdown is bringing it all to light.

“It’s not a joke to say Republicans have an uncanny knack for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Of all the things the GOP excels at, this tops the charts.”

Almost like it’s intentional

Schumer doesn't even hold a majority leadership position in his house of Congress.

Yes, but he controls enough votes to block through filibuster. And, it is his judgement that McConnell won't go nuclear and eliminated it entirely (although he certainly will, given the future opportunity).

You’re correct. I live in an area with a significant amount of Government employees. The only thing we’ve noticed is that the stores seem to be busier.

I suspect that the vast majority of Americans even think of the Federal Government no more than a few times a year and their only actual interaction is on April 15.

As someone who has had two six month stints of unemployment after being laid off permanently, (one necessitating a 600 mile relocation and eight month family separation) my sympathy meter is pegged at zero.

In the booming Trump economy, there’s plenty of jobs for those Gubmint workers to have until the “shutdown” is over.

PEOPLE LOVE a SHUTDOWN!!

History shows Republicans win big after shutdown.
Democrat Pelosi is too inept to create a budget.

Pelosi is starving Federal grandmas.

Pelisi is hurting Federal children.

If the Republicans had 50 votes in the Senate to end this shutdown, McConnell would pass it through a reconciliation bill.

McConnell is holding fast on the 60-vote requirement because he knows he doesn't even have 50 votes.

McConnell isn’t stopping the shut down because he doesn’t want to pass the continuing CR the house sent him as it doesn’t contain any funding for border security.

The GOP lost the house because they had too many prominent retirements.
