President Barack Obama stunned Republicans when he bypassed Congress and relying on what he called his pen and his phone used executive powers to enact his agenda, including protecting millions of young immigrants from deportation.
Now, with President Donald Trump proposing an even more dramatic end-run around Congress to build his promised border wall with Mexico, many Republicans are uneasily cheering him on.
The potential use of a national emergency declaration by Trump for the border wall shows the extent to which the party is willing to yield on treasured values in this case, the constitutional separation of powers to steer clear of confronting the White House and give the president what he wants.
Its a different accommodation from just a few years ago. Then Republicans often called out Obama as overstepping his authority in using executive actions when Congress failed to act on White House priorities. They complained about Obama as king, ″emperor or tyrant.
Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., a leader of the House Freedom Caucus, said most conservatives would go along with Trumps decision to declare a national emergency as the last tool in the tool box for building the wall.
Does the president have the right and the ability to do it? Yes. Would most of us prefer a legislative option? Yes, Meadows told reporters this week. Most conservatives want it to be the last resort he would use. But those same conservatives, Im sure, if its deployed, would embrace him as having done all he could do to negotiate with Democrats.

Well, first, Executive Orders undoing other Executive Orders is a no-brainer. Undoing an unjust usurpation is not a usurpation.
Outside of those, most of Trump’s orders have to do with his role as Commander in Chief, and is not the same thing as inventing a requirement to cover birth control, etc. that wasn’t in the language of Obamacare, or floating the insurance companies. Not to mention the planeload of cash to Iran that was not allocated by a bill originating in the House.
In regard to the wall — Trump has not done much thus far. If the positions were reversed and Obama could not get Congress to fund a wall then Obama would have already got the Army Corp of Engineers busy building the wall.
I think FR is the half the AP readership.
Did 0bama have to declare a national emergency to give Iran $125 BILLION on pallets of cash?
DNC accepted Obama’s over reach but rejects Trumps.
Trump doesn’t overreach, though. He gets things done by Constitutional means, and it drives them nuts when he demonstrates how well it works.
If Lisa said the word ILLEGAL out loud, she would burst into flames.
Democrats reject Trump overreach but remained both silent and supportive of Obama’s overreach.

Hm.... Im not a Republican and Im easily cheering him on.
You reminded me of “The Wizard of Oz” and the witch melting, for some reason. Mascaro has a similar look to her; perhaps that’s why.
The sound of liberal tears is music to my ears...
AP. What a bunch of leftist pukes.
People are so afraid of a little hypocrisy. Embrace the suck.
Or Dems ecstatic about Obama’s totalitarian dictates but I’m willing to even talk civilly with President Trump. They call him a NAZI, while they are a a extremely socialist party.
One of the Left’s tactics is to conflate two very different actions as one. This idiot liberal is no different. Obama’s actions went around not only the Congress, but also the Constitution. Trump on the other hand has followed not only the Constitution, but also the law. If he hadn’t he would have told those liberal judges to just shove it when they ruled according to their politics and not the law. But instead he worked within what has become our corrupt legal system. However, the Leftists and their media propaganda machines (like this idiot woman) want to propagandize the American people into believing that Trump’s actions, with which they disagree, are not Constitutional and legal, but dictatorial. Unfortunately, at least half of Americans are stupid tools and are easily led to this view.
DACA. GM secured creditor theft. Do I need to go on?
