WASHINGTON Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez didnt get a seat on the powerful tax writing committee where she sought to push her progressive agenda of Medicare for All, free college tuition and a green new deal.
Instead, the open downstate New York slot on the House Ways and Means Committee went to a moderate Democrat, Long Island Rep. Tom Suozzi, a former CPA, attorney and county executive.
Suozzi will assume the committee seat of Rep. Joe Crowley, the Queens Democrat Ocasio-Cortez defeated last year in a stunning upset.
Ocasio-Cortez sought a spot on the committeewhich is usually off limits to freshman reps with the backing of progressive groups that pushed for a slate of fresh-faced candidates to earn posh assignments.
Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib made a play for Appropriations, but she too was passed over.
Ocasio-Cortez, at 29 the youngest member of Congress, took the defeat in stride. Asked if she felt slighted by leadership, her spokesman Corbin Trent said certainly not.
She hoped to be on it, but were excited to see what committees she does get, Trent said.

That’s hilarious. Thanks for the morning laugh my friend.
Mistaking the slobbering media for the American public is a grave mistake made by most dems, and some RINOs.
The media relishes all the “anti-Trump” rhetoric, as it feeds their agenda, but the American people are totally turned off by it, for the most part.
I didn’t like this cabrona before she said that the illegals were more American than I am. After that comment I hate her guts.
I don’t believe she is “acting stupid”
Still she is a threat to entrench lifer dog like Nancy pants.
but were excited to see what committees she does get,

Her first day on the Hill, she literally led a demonstration in Pelosi’s office.
Stupid.
Put her on the new left-handed monkey wrench committee, and see how long until she notices that no one else is showing up.
I guess having been ignored for Speaker she was willing to settle for being the first freshman to win a seat on the W&M committee.
You have to figure out no one likes you eventually when even other maniacs can’t stand you.

Most of the nitty-gritty action in Congress happens in committees.
Not surprisingly, campaign contributions flow to members of the committees that big donors are really interested in like, say, the ways and means committee, which oversees the tax code.
This makes a huge difference to lawmakers, who need a steady stream of donations to fund their re-election campaigns.
Both parties rank each committee for its fundraising potential. There are lists of the A, B, and C committees, and fundraising targets for the members. Those lists aren't public. Many lawmakers say these lists exist, but no one would give one to us.
So we created our own list, based on publicly disclosed fundraising numbers. At our request, Lee Drutman of the Sunlight Foundation, crunched data going back to the early '90s.
The analysis found that Ways and Means is the most valuable committee for fundraising. Lawmakers on the Ways and Means committee raise an extra $250,000 a year compared to the average Congressman.
The judiciary committee was the worst. Congressmen on that committee raised $182,000 less than the average Congressman.
So Pelosi will stick her in something much less lucrative, maybe Judiciary.
Tom Suozzi, a former CPA, attorney and county executive.
Certainly seems a better pick than a loud mouthed, skinny, buck toothed ex barmaid.
