In the long run, history will validate Donald Trump’s stand on a border wall to defend the sovereignty and security of the United States.
Why? Because mass migration from the global South, not climate change, is the real existential crisis of the West.
The American people know this, and even the elites sense it.
Think not? Well, check out the leading liberal newspapers Thursday.
The Washington Post and the New York Times each had two front-page stories about the president’s battle with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer on funding the border wall.
Inside the first section, the Post had more stories, including one describing walls in history from China’s Great Wall to the Berlin Wall to the Israeli West Bank wall to the wall separating Hungary from Serbia.
Inside the Times was a story on a new anti-immigration party, Vox, surging in Andalusia in Spain, and a story about African migrants being welcomed in Malta after being denied entry into Europe.
Another Times story related how the new president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, has pulled out of a U.N. pact on migration, declaring, “Brazil has a sovereign right to decide whether or not it accepts immigrants.”
Half the columns on the op-ed pages of the papers dealt with Trump, immigration and the wall. And there was nothing significant in either on the Democrats’ hot new issue, a Green New Deal.

Congress will cave and fund the wall if Trump keeps the gov shut down into Feb when the welfare checks stop.

Declare the emergency and declare martial law along the entire border, order the military to build the wall and whatever it costs demand that Congress reimburse the DOD before agreeing to reopen the government. The ACE can do it cheaper than anyone else.
An RGB announcement/death could be a good timeframe for announcing the SoE. Only so many crisis the MSM can focus on.

I wish this were true. I suspect that over the "long term" everyone who believes what Pat wrote will all be dead. Our educational and MSM institutions have brainwashed our young people who celebrate "diversity", socialism and all the things we hate. If a wall every gets built the left will tear it down or at least allow mexicans to tear holes through it.
I'm not saying we should not build a wall but I have little confidence that the leftists who write our history books will somehow realize the wall was a great idea.
We need a “wall”, but just as importantly, we need tightening of our immigration laws to get rid of illegal immigrants here already, to end catch and release and to contain in shelters true asylum seekers rather than releasing them.
Trump can get a Declaratory Judgment that his proposed actions are in conformance with law and push the burden of challenge onto Dems , while his orders stay operative. He could build the wall, halt inbound traffic at all ports of entry to manually check all cars for drugs and the trafficked. He could x-ray or manually inspect every commercial truck for the same.
New laws and monies and more personnel and hi tech help at border would be quickly forthcoming.
He can git er done and save this nation. Otherwise, I firmly believe this is our last chance and he has to act boldly.
Hold. And take the shutdown money.
Then declare an emergency for the balance.
Buchanan is on our side, but Trump is a lap ahead of him. Fear not.

Assimilating migrants - and our own youth - into the values of the American founding, is needed to pass down liberty to future generations, and save our constitution.
Declaring a National Emergency should be the last resort. It is only a single liberal judge from, at least temporarily, being stopped, like everything else on immigration Pres. Trump has done by executive order.
The Wall really does have a broad amount of support. I'd say more than 50% want it. The democrats opposing it are exposing themselves as anti-American. This is good.
Give the cake time to bake.

People forget that Truman did an end-run on the RR strikers and Reagan also, showed the air traffic guys how it’s done.
Frankly this should have been done last year but I guess the optics look better with an openly hostile Congress to do this.
Trump should do a lot more with emergency powers besides building the wall too.

Agree. Trump has the winning hand. Dem constituents will make Dems cave. They are 90% of those impacted by this.
Trump should explore making the temporary cuts permanent. So they know this can go on forever.
Declaring an emergency will send this to the 9th Circuit. Dems will delay the wall until after 2020.
Look also for environment front groups to sue saying it’ll impact whatever animals are in the area.
Dems will also be more concerned about RBG stepping down in the days ahead. Wall will be small potatoes.
