WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's first absence from the bench extended into a second day on Tuesday as the 85-year-old jurist continued her recovery from lung cancer surgery at home.
Although Ginsburg did not attend the oral arguments, she will participate in the cases and rulings by using the briefs and oral argument transcripts, Chief Justice John Roberts announced from the bench.

I suspect their crystal ball needs fresh batteries.

I know they do, but I believe impeachment hearings in the House could prevent the President from even nominating a judge to the Supreme Court during impeachment or scheduled hearings. The Senate only confirms a SC nomination.

I do NOT want this construed as wishful thinking .......but have the local cops done a proof of life check on R/B/G? No, but I heard they did a "wellness check" on Roberts.

This 'she'll never die' fantasy is laughable. We saw it with McCain too. FACTS- she is 85.
She Is on her way OUT.
She is NOT immortal or indestructible.
She is NOT getting healthier.
Age means something.
She is MORE infirm now than ever before in her life and she will get worse.
She cannot be an effective Justice if she is barely conscious/alive.
Odds are Trump WILL get to appoint another Justice.
Denying reality does not change it.

She heard that the government was shut down, so she didn’t come in to work.

She’s gonna pull a “McCain” and hold the seat hostage until after the funeral.

I was waiting for a Star Trek “She’s dead, Jim.” clip. :-) Thanks!
It’s deeply weird that the Dems and Ginsberg are playing this game. Is she really sick, dying or already dead? If any of the 3 are true, Ruthie needs to step down...or her embalmers need to produce the body for another insufferable, week-long funeral extolling her “virtues” until she is dang near a deity.
If this were a conservative Justice who was extremely ill and unable to be physically present, well, you know how it would go.

I think nominations would proceed as normal. Did X42 fill any vacancies while he was being impeached?

When I had my lower left lope removed when I found out I had lung cancer three years ago, they had me on Morphine for the pain. I was not aware of anything around me until I was taken off. I think she is at that stage now!
