Xi has issued public remarks on several occasions this week – first to herald in the new year, then to issue threats to Taiwan to surrender to Chinese rule or expect military action. In that speech, Xi stated, “we make no promise to abandon the use of force, and retain the option of taking all necessary measures,” he also said, according to the Times. “Reunification is a historical trend and it is the right path. Taiwan independence is an adverse current of history and is a dead end,” Xi said, adding a subtle note to the United States that “foreign interference is intolerable.”

The winds of war? I doubt it, the cost would be unimaginable on both sides. More likely china gets isolated and then internal forces take over. But who knows.

We need to answer, unambiguously, that any military attack on Taiwan will result in a US military response.
We sent the wrong signal to Saddam back in July of 1990, and we should be unequivocal now. He thought Kuwait was Iraq’s, and thought foreign intervention was intolerable, too.

Some parts of one kind were accidentally shipped to Taiwan a long time ago, but they were returned according to official word both countries. Taiwan’s problem with having nukes is that the island is a small area for survivability in a nuclear exchange, compared to, for example, our own country. Also, Taiwan has trustworthy allies with nukes.

Here is what is going to happen. Democrats will lay a trap that will sucker trump into Military action through siding with China os this, and they may even reach out to Xi and tell him that they will support his actions, and when Trump defends Taiwan Democrats will accuse Trump of being a war monger, a hater and block his actions and block aid to Taiwan

What does that have to do with what we were talking about, which is how relatively insignificant events can snowball into a catastrophe nobody wanted.
And the number of people and treasure we lost was a pittance compared to the millions lost by Russia, Germany, France, Britain... We actually came out pretty good from that war. All the old powers were on their knees and we took over. Lesson learned - if you’re going to join a war, do it at the last minute when all the other combatants are exhausted and ready to keel over.
