LANSING, MI -- On a cold Michigan day and among hundreds of supporters, Gretchen Whitmer was sworn in and officially inaugurated as the states 49th governor.
She struck a tone of bipartisanship, acknowledging legislative leaders from both parties and saying, We owe it to the people we serve to cast partisanship aside, to roll up our sleeves, and to build bridges together.
Her campaign logo incorporated the Mackinac Bridge, and she drew on that as an example of a time Michiganders worked together to build something that connected people and strengthened the states economy.

Maryland ? Are you a masochist ? That’s a helluva lot worse than Michigan.
As with many, I lost my job in Michigan during the Granholm depression.
I’m an expert in my field, but it’s a fairly small one. Another company, sadly based in the People’s Republic of Maryland liked my skill set and was willing to pay me for it.
I had no choice.
Most of Maryland is actually pretty red. I live in one of those areas.
When we moved her, we became part of the community and I’m involved in a ministry that I can’t just up and leave. Plus the company I work for keeps giving me new challenges.
Politically this place absolutely sucks. The concept of Freedom is rather foreign to many.
But, for now, it’s home. The plan is to get back to the Midwest in 3 years or so.
Yeah, that’s the problem... Maryland is very red. Commie Red. I just couldn’t go to a place where the politics, values, et al are thoroughly offensive, corrupt and alien to my senses. Although I live in a Commie Red county in TN, the Conservative GOP areas can override the insanity.
Thanks for sharing your opinion on how I should run my life.
I think it’s where their slogan “Show me the love!” came from. However, “the love” is code for free taxpayer dough!
I didn’t tell you how to run your life. I just said that “I” couldn’t move to such a place, nothing more. I wish you well.
