ARENSKY: TRIO FOR PIANO, VIOLIN & CELLO IN D MINOR, OP. 32
Anton Arensky was a fine teacher but a second rate composer. He died at a young age due to the traditional Russian dual curse: tuberculosis and vodka. In this trio, however, he got on his tiptoes, reached for the stars and snagged a few of them. This movement is sheer fun. The middle portion at 2:26 sounds like Arensky strolling down the boulevard in Moscow ogling the pretty young girls.

Hey there, radu!
Happy New Year to you, too. And looks like a lot of us are doing what the quiz predicted....at home in our jammies/casuals.
We DID find a dryer. Just what I wanted, on sale and free delivery. From Lowe’s! It gets here tomorrow. She said at first that it would be about 9 days, but there was a last minute cancellation for tomorrow, so we snatched it. Now we can wash all these dirty clothes. Ugh. LOL!

This movement became so popular that Lou began to regard it with hostility. It was arranged for many instruments to include piano, string quartet and even hurdy-gurdy. It got to the point that Beethoven was sick of it. I’ve long had the suspicion that he said, “May God strike me deaf if I have to hear it one more time!”
