Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina on Sunday said a deal that combines $5 billion for President Trump’s border wall with an extension of legal status for “Dreamers” and people fleeing conflict or natural disasters back home could “save the day in the Senate” and reopen the government.
“We need to start talking again,” the Republican told CNN’s State of the Union. “To my Democratic friends: There will never be a deal without wall funding.”
He said in return, immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children should be eligible for legal status and authorization to work for three years under a bill he’s put forward with Sen. Richard Durbin, Illinois Democrat.

I knew amnesty could never be far from Graham’s mind.
Why are we all accepting the $5 billion figure? That is nowhere near enough to do the job right. The wall has to survive the neglect and sabotage inevitable whenever the Democrats are in power.
Divert the appropriate amount (more like $50 billion) from other sources and keep the nonessential government spending shut down.

President Trump should go the other way.
Start deporting “Dreamers” as fast as possible, courts be damned, and offer to slow up when he gets money for the wall.
He should also start using laws against aiding and abetting illegal immigration as ruthlessly as possible.
These Dreamers should have filed for citizenship when they were kids. Tney would be citizens by now. They deserve no special treatment. Let them file like everyone else!

And then e-verify and no funding, including dropping the pay of Senior Executive Service (SES) employees to $1. Until chain migration, ridiculous “asylum” laws, etc., are fixed.

To the best of my knowledge, improper entry is only a misdemeanor (for a first-time offender) because the maximum sentence is 6 months. Generally felonies are considered crimes where the mandatory penalty is incarceration for one year or more.
A Republican legislator from Tennessee, I think, tried to remedy this by introducing legislation making it a felony, but I don’t think it ever passed.

Bush League Republicans want to keep the ones that are here, even if they let some fence get built.
That’s already part of the plan, but Democrats don’t want to even talk about it.
Democrats have been very successful at getting what they wanted for decades with incrementalism. Sadly, many Republicans have failed to learn that strategy to achieve success.
Illegal aliens cannot file for citizenship.
Only legal resident aliens can do that after 5 years of lawful presence.

Yes! I argued with an anti-wall person the other day and they had the stats of how many people come here from Central America by plane. If Trump builds the biggest wall in the world, and we don’t EVER follow up on our expired tourist visas or really anyone student whatever coming here and staying. The wall won’t do any good.
The coyote business is huge and lucrative. They start chartering planes, they don’t lose a cent. They can offer the tickets (even on commercial airlines) and enslave the travelers for %ages of their future pay like they do now.
No one ever checks expired student or tourist visas. Remember that great exchange student Mohamed Atta?

In order to give them the greencard, employer must sponsor them and the they employees have to pay back income tax for the entire time they were hired period. If they don’t, so these guys need to go back to their countries. IMO, we can negotiate with the Democrat on Amnesty, but we need a lot of restrictions. It’s not that all of the illegals are criminal. A lot of them are hard working, religious and do not care about politics. I believe there will be many people who are willing to pay a lot of money to stay here. 700,000 sounds a lot, but how many of the illegal will meet qualifications? They might just give up and go home. And we should not grant GC for 700,000 in one year. It should be spread over 10 years depending on qualification.
One thing to keep in mind:
One of the few departments affected by the shutdown is the Department of Agriculture, and that department’s biggest expense is Food Stamps. As this partial shutdown continues, all those beloved illegals will cease receiving those beloved Food Stamps.
The Democrats WILL cave if we remain committed to a clean funding bill. There is no need for Republicans to compromise.
The DACA Dreamers is NOT LAW, but some bureaucrat’s email.
Dreamerism is a nothing burger.
