The Internal Revenue Service had in its weapons inventory 4,487 guns and 5,062,006 rounds of ammunition as of late 2017, according to a report published this month by the Government Accountability Office.
Included in this arsenal, according to the GAO, were 15 fully automatic firearms and 56,000 rounds of ammunition for those fully automatic firearms.
The same report--"Federal Law Enforcement: Purchases and Inventory Controls of Firearms, Ammuntion, and Tactical Equipment"--says that the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Services had 194 fully automatic firearms and 386,952 rounds of ammunition for those fully automatic firearms.

Bad enough, since the IRS really isn’t supposed to be doing its own shooting. :)
Trump should sell all guns and ammunition. This would defeat the purpose of Obama buying them in the first place.
I remember just going to WM for Federal 9mm (nothing to do with gov’t, lol). I kept missing the immediate stocking.
I was lucky to find maybe a dozen boxes (100 rounds) over a 12 month period - across the WM’s I visited over 3 states during that time. One had a few - I went back and doubled-up after getting a box earlier that night - 24 hours and they were within 5 miles of a friend’s house (my car was at his house).
This was during king Barack, that is.
Out of control government
...GAO: IRS Had 4,487 Guns; 5,062,006 Rounds of Ammunition...
Kept at the office for intimidation of the “customers.”
So government can arm government agencies of all sorts but the civilian population has to give theirs up
Guess I’m not the only one who thinks you should have 1,000+ rounds per weapon. Unfortunately, can’t afford that these days.
Before Obama left the presidency, some Freepers were posting articles about diverse federal agencies like the Wildlife and Weather Bureau having such and such amount of weapons and ammo, which alarmed them because they feared Obama and his ilk wasn’t going to leave office willingly.
It was getting some creditably until other Freepers showed them the amount the military and more impressively, in private hands.
Then Obama left and these type of stories died off... until now.
Now I guess the “fear mongers” are worried “The Deep State” is arming to force Trump from office.
And the IRS needs gun for what?
Raids that another agency should
be doing.
The IRS is a law enforcement agency.
They have a criminal investigation division. Of course they have guns.
Broken down into details, especially compared to their respective law enforcement officers, these numbers are not odd at all. In fact, some of the numbers, especially ammunition, seems low. I’ve got more per gun.
Trump needs to do an E.O. to disperse the stuff. Just to make the public aware this is going on.
When that threatening letter and phone call just need a little more punch.
It was the IRS who got Al Capone.
Just a little over 1000 rounds per weapon? Lots of Freepers can probably beat that average.
Well, maybe for security.
I worked there ......... waaaaaaaaaaay back.
Of course we only had a few security up front. While there were maybe 750 of us in the back.
I know the floor doing 1040A people had 500 on the floor on any given shift (yes there were 3 during the week).
I got moved to a special area that processed payments soon after starting so I wasn’t out on the main floor too long.
