Ending Independent Federal Agencies
American Thinker ^ | Bruce Walker

The threat by President Trump to fire the Federal Reserve chairman is an example of how our entire federal system has grown into a monstrosity that is overwhelmingly unconstitutional – and almost everyone, not just President Trump, is to blame.

The Federal Reserve System is an independent regulatory agency, that murky and unaccountable fourth branch of government. As such, its members, once nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate, serve whatever term is provided for in the statute creating the independent agency.

Just as the Senate cannot undo its confirmation, the president cannot undo his nomination (or the nomination of his predecessor if the appointment was made before his term began). The purpose of these agencies is to provide a federal creature that makes laws (regulations) without congressional approval and that executes laws without presidential approval.

Most of these agencies are not only "quasi-legislative" and "quasi-executive," but also "quasi-judicial," which destroys the separation of powers in a system not anywhere provided for in the Constitution.

All agencies should come under scrutiny and if necessary investigation and should be gutted as a final solution

He can fire him for cause. I think causing a recession counts as cause.

Shut down all of the agencies. They are a nightmare legally. Completely unchecked by any kind of oversight.

The ideas behind such agencies was hatched by the “progressives” and their intellectual predecessors.

They rest on two motives touted as “noble” and are actually the opposite of noble and are in fact intentionally dishonest.

The first motive is said to be to “keep politics out of their decision making”. It’s a lie. What is actually intended is to keep representative government - executive and legislature - handcuffed - because they will get in the way of “unbiased” “nonpartisan” “independent” “experts”.

It pretends that those installed in the agencies are not themselves biased, partisan and not independent of their own political agendas.

The last part, the “expert” part is the heart of the second motive - rule by the experts. It represents a grave fallacy that requires extreme intellectual dishonesty. It forces suspension of logic, because it assumes by you merely appointing persons to the positions of “experts” that they automatically are, or thereby become “experts” whose opinions should not be challenged, debated, offered opposition, and weighed against other opinions. The authority granted the agencies demands that illogical not very rational “respect” for them.

Both motives are but two fallacious rationales for the real motive - taking decision making out of the hands of elected government.

Hard to imagine it ever happening. I think the people are just too disengaged, well fed, and entertained to care much about it. It was probably too late to do anything about it 50 years ago, much less now.

Good grief the NSA is the largest employer in Maryland. An estimated 40,000 + employees, they can’t tell us the actual number. They deign to admit to around a 10 billion per year budget, Snowden says it’s more like 50 billion off the books. That’s a lot of people with tons of money with a single shared interest in sticking around.

Start by repealing the 17th Amendment because it effectively makes the US Senate an “independent” body (rate of re-election in 2018 was 84%, 93% in 2016). Restoring their election to the several state legislatures also makes them subject to recall.

And while you’re at it, abolish the IRS, which is the worst of the offenders.

Then the BLM and the EPA.

How many “Americans” would vote to repeal the 17th, you think?
