President Trump shortened the sentences of thousands of prisoners by signing the First Step Act days before Christmas. But one week later, inmates and their frustrated families say they are afraid the gift wont be delivered in time to hasten release dates.
Silence from the Federal Bureau of Prisons is creating fear that foot-dragging will eat into reductions mandated by Trump's most significant bipartisan policy achievement. The new law gives many prisoners an extra seven days off their sentences for each year of good behavior, but it's unclear when authorities will make the calculations.
Literally, my brother has packed his stuff and is waiting for the call, said Veda Ajamu, whose brother Robert Shipp, 46, has served 25 years of a drug sentence.

Heh. Trump has generously allowed prisoners a Christmas gift. Early Release.
But the Grinches (’Rats) who stole Christmas has shut the government down.
No Early Release for You!
One of my concerns with willy nilly releasing prisoners like this is the high incidence of Hepatitis and HIV among prison population in the US...mainly due to all the tattooing going on. Infected needles, reused ink and no means of sterilization spreads a great many blood born diseases in prison. Shouldn’t these people be screened before release? Failure to do so will be disastrous.
It appears the new crime rate surge is delayed a bit!
Hope somebody is tracking recidivism, illegitimate kids, and welfare consumption for the released perps.
So, if they have a disease let them rot in prison? Is that your answer? Is that what you call justice?
I believe I used the word "screened" which implies a process of diagnosis and treatment before release. It would cost a lot less than incarceration.
Or should we just release them and then...how about we send them to your house for dinner?
One thing that I can promise: NO ONE will be held accountable for the crimes committed by people as the jails are emptied. That NEVER happens.
