About six hours before Meloy's discovery, President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump were quietly whisked out of the White House under the cover of darkness on Christmas night for a trip to Iraq.

1. "Alan Meloy looked out his kitchen window"
2. "I literally stepped out, and I could see a trail coming towards me"
3. "The plane maintained an altitude of about 31,000 feet as it flew across the UK,"
4. The photo shot is parallel to the plane as it is flying.... (the guy's kitchen window must be pretty high up in the air).
We live in a part of KY that gets no real air traffic. When a commercial airliner fly’s over, we respond similar to how we respond when we see a car coming down a road that has virtually no traffic - “Who is that?”
When we lived in Seattle, we ignored planes over us.
What was he using, a telescope? Planes fly overhead by me at about 30K all day and I will darned if I can make out the type of plane no less then the color.
Looks like a telescopic lens of some type.
I live about ten miles from Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey, and when he travels here during the summer he usually flies in and out of a regional airport that's right along the route I drive to and from work. I'll occasionally see Air Force One flying into the airport on a Friday evening on my way home, and I'll be damned if anyone could identify it from a distance of more than a couple of miles.
Interestingly, I find it easier to identify Air Force One by sound at night. That's because the FAA has tight flight restrictions in the airspace in the area while the president is in town, so when Air Force One flies out on a Sunday evening it's always the only aircraft in the sky within miles of where I live.
This was on Twitter in about real time. Getting hard to hide tings these days.
More likely this photo journalist has a friend who works at UK’s air traffic control.
Agreed, unless the plane is far to the horizon, requiring very powerful lenses, I do not understand how it could be viewed side on.
Yes, safe to say. 747 is a big plane and with a long lens and his 7D on a tripod he could reach out for a distant image. He likely cropped the heck out of it too, so what appears as a near level shot on the plane is taken from miles away if it's a clear day.
re: “with a long lens and his 7D on a tripod he “
AND the guy has his tripod on a platform at like, 25,000 ft.
Look at the side perspective of the 747 ...
“Not so secret”. Yet CNN missed it.
B.S. More likely a Brit spy agency photo of AF1 which is a not-so-subtle threat from the corrupt Brit spy agency that they can target AF1.
We know the Brits and the bastard FBI tried to sabotage Trump's campaign. Now they're trying to remove him by any means including assassination.

He’s a pro and likes to photograph planes and birds and more ...
AT this point, I wonder how much and what kind of voice comms AF-1 has with en route ATC ... and what, if any, transponder code was assigned.
The only people calling the trip, “covert”, is CNN. Only because he didn’t tell them about it, and invite them along for the ride.
Trump is the COMMANDER IN CHIEF of the Armed Forces of the United States of America, he doesn’t have to notify the press to visit the troops.
He’s taken away CNN’s influence and control of the Presidency, and they don’t like it...not the least bit.
Even spies have hobbies......LOL!
I’d also like to know if there was any cloud cover at the time the plane allegedly flew pass this crack pot.
Zoomed all the way, you can't get all of the moon in the frame.
He said he saw the contrail and used his telescopic lens to see what was making it.
Exactly. He saw the contrail and used a long lens to find what was making it. It's actually quite plausible from my experience.
A side view of a 747-200 does not show the wing tip above the fuselage. You would have to be well below it and at a distance to view it as in the pic he took.
The guy is a great photographer and some of the folks on here have vivid imaginations. Hope they check under the bed before they crawl in tonight?
