The Venezuelan Navy illegally entered the waters of Guyana this weekend and forced a ship contracted by Exxon Mobil to conduct oil research in the area to vacate,
The incident, which Guyanese authorities angrily denounced and vowed to bring to the attention of the United Nations, reignites a feud Venezuelan socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro began with the neighboring country in 2015, claiming as much as two-thirds of Guyana itself belonged to Venezuela. Guyana has repeatedly noted that Venezuela signed an agreement in 1899 on the territory in question and no disputes remain as to who owns that land.
Exxon Mobil made its first of ten major oil discoveries in Guyana in 2015, triggering Maduros claims to the territory. Despite being an OPEC member nation and home to one of the worlds largest known oil reserves, Venezuela has been forced to import hundreds of thousands of gallons of refined oil because the socialist state nationalized the nations major oil corporations and has replaced experts at Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), the state-run oil company, with Maduro cronies of limited experience in the oil industry.
In its own statement released Sunday, the government of Guyana expressed outrage at the Venezuelan government invading its territory and said it would bring a complaint before the United Nations.

They’ve been fleeing to Columbia and other countries.
She’s already said she’s going after banks. It is sickening that a socialist, and a stupid one at that, will head the finance committee. It’s horrifying.
Reminds me of that one eyed Omar in Afghanistan, Mullah Mohammad Omar, robbed a bank of seven million— US money of course—and has never been seen or heard from again.
Yes, if it were before May 26, 1966. That said, I’m sure that members of the RCN would not be against a patrol in South America during a Canadian winter, in support of a fellow Commonwealth country.
Its open extortion.
She is telling the banks Come grovel before me and bring your check books. My re-election campaign war chest is in need of replenishment.
2 diesel electric (type 209) submarines (German)
3 missile frigates (Italian)
4 corvettes (Spanish)
10 coastal patrol vessels (5 Spanish, 5 British)
1 LST, one supply vessel; both South Korean
Its time to shoot that bastard too
Put the real Venezuela folks back in charge
My limited contact with Venezuelans who have left to go to Chile is that they are honorable, responsible, and respected by the locals.
Sick Stuff for sure
He’s either buried out in the desert somewhere and his buddies have the money or he’s running a bodega in Brooklyn.
The Darian Gap in Panama allows only the hardiest of the South American foot traffic riff-raff from making it any farther north.
Lots of Venezuelans are legit refugees.
‘...Shes already said shes going after banks. It is sickening that a socialist, and a stupid one at that, will head the finance committee. Its horrifying.....”
And another communist lib that should have been jailed years ago.
So which of these are ordered to attack a US ship first, or will the Iranians serve up the first shot?
Either way, we need to lift strict rules of engagement when in hostile waters.
Thanks.
My friend lives in Cota Colombia and she says there are many coming from Venezuela. She says they are bringing crime to the smaller villages and towns. That is saying a lot when people in Colombia are complaining about criminals.
:-)
Most Americans are unaware, and too disconnected to follow the posturing near our doorstep, by nearly all of those we would give the title enemy.
Russia has maintained anywhere from 2-24 TU-160’s, with nuclear cruise missiles, the nuclear powered Peter the Great battleship and it’s Russian Naval task force, which commonly travels with 3-5 (and up to 7) nuclear subs, and multiple brigades of Spetsnaz in Venezuela.
Moscow also maintains arguably one of it’s most strategic ground stations for SIGINT and ELINT, as well as multiple brigades of spetsnaz on rotation in Nicaragua. This was one of the outcomes the Reagan Administration was successful in keeping out of our neighborhood.
The amount of nuclear weapons Moscow has proximal to North America, makes what happened in Cuba look like “boot camp”.
Venezuela is crashing and and desperate. Maybe theyre thinking a war will fix it.
