Outgoing Sen. Claire McCaskill says she's unsure why Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., has become so popular among Democrats.
But the Missouri Democrat has some advice for the young rising liberal star.
In an interview with CNN, McCaskill admitted, "I'm a little confused why she's the thing," after admitting she didn't know Ocasio-Cortez when asked if the self-proclaimed democratic socialist was a "crazy Democrat" like the ones she warned about during the 2018 campaign trail. McCaskill did say the 29-year-old was a "good example" of a "bright shiny new object" that came out of nowhere and surprised people when she beat a very experienced congressman.
Ocasio-Cortez defeated Democratic incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley in June during the primary race. She then beat her Republican opponent Anthony Pappas in the general election and will represent New York's 14th Congressional District in the next Congress. Among her top priorities are climate change, income inequality, and ending "school-to-prison pipelines."
Despite her uncertainty about Ocasio-Cortez's appeal, McCaskill, who lost her re-election bid to Republican Josh Hawley last month, wished Ocasio-Cortez success.
"She's now talked about a lot. I'm not sure what she's done yet to generate that kind of enthusiasm, but I wish her well. I hope she hangs the moon," McCaskill said before adding a note of caution.
"But I hope she also realizes that the parts of the country that are rejecting the Democratic Party, like a whole lot of white working class voters, need to hear about how their work is going to be respected, and the dignity of their jobs, and how we can really stick to issues that we can actually accomplish something on," McCaskill said.
"The rhetoric is cheap. Getting results is a lot harder," McCaskill added.

San Fran Nan can't be happy that a freshman is getting all the face time. To Nancy, the real story should be how she's returning to her role as Speaker, not some newbie like AOC.
Pelosi is still feeling out how the lib base reacts to attacks on OAC from within her own party, so it's not an open cat fight yet. If it was, Pelosi would be at the mike instead of Claire, her proxy.
The lid is still on this pressure cooker for now, but I have hopes it'll blow up soon...
She will win five terms in the House, be elected Senator for two terms, then run for POTUS at age 50.
Either that or she will quit halfway through her first HOR term to run for POTUS in 2020.

Actually, she’s a bit behind on that. Obama effectively ended the discipline of school brats, which, of course, LED DIRECTLY to the bloodbath in Florida that gave us David Hog.
He got close to that goal.

She has identity politics on her side and that she says stupid things is a plus with the semi-literate (at best) low information voters who put her in office. It’s all identity plus gimmiedat - the voters the Democrats trained or imported will go for that, 99% of them will.
What’s scary, at least to me, in this article is that Claire seems to at least somewhat understand where this country is, or at least where her state is, politically.
YET - she wasn’t given any wiggle room by Shumer, not one bit. A few pro-Trump votes and she well may have been re-elected, but NOTHING WAS ALLOWED, so she had to sit there and watch her seat flip over.
You just don’t see that level of total-control in the Republican Party (which is certainly a bummer at times, but it also allows people like Collins to keep her seat).
Claire would still be Senator if she started telling the truth before she was in trouble.
It’s not confusing at all. She’s the face and mentality of the left.

“ocialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez apparently made enemies while working at a bar in New York as a former co-worker claims that she was greedy and, in at least one instance, allegedly kept most of the tips for herself.
The New York Post’s Page Six reports that while many of the people who used to work with Ocasio-Cortez at Flats Fix liked her, at least one employee had negative things to say about her character.
One waitress at the street taco and tequila bar told Page Six that during a busy Cinco de Mayo celebration in 2017, Ocasio-Cortez allegedly did something shady when splitting up the tips. Page Six reports:
At the end of the night, when it came time to split the $560 in tips she had gotten at the bar, Ocasio-Cortez gave the waitress only $50. After the waitress complained to her manager, her take was doubled to $100, a source said.
“It says so much about her character,” the waitress told Page Six. “From that point on, I wouldn’t talk to her. I couldn’t look at her.”
When contacted by Page Six about the allegations, Ocasio-Cortez did not respond.
Ocasio-Cortez, who is running for Congress as a Democrat in New York’s 14th District, is being propped up by the media as the future of the Democratic Party as the party continues to move further and further left.
During television interviews, Ocasio-Cortez has continued to repeat: “I believe that in a modern, moral and wealthy society, no person in America should be too poor to live. That’s what I feel.”
Ocasio-Cortez has largely been unable to define the difference between socialism and Democratic socialism.”

I know...amazing. She doesn’t have to be so open about it, but because she is, it tells me that she always knew that she was screwing over her voters - yet powerless to prevent it.
The amount of control she was under is unimaginable, at least to me.
