GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A West Michigan native who recently moved to Colorado said she and her husband got a firsthand look at the effects of the government shutdown.
Leeann Sadler, who is originally from Grand Rapids, planned to visit several national parks with her husband. The government shutdown is taking a toll on those plans.
Sadler told 24 Hour News over FaceTime that she and her husband planned their trip six months ago.
"We didn't know that the governrment shutdown would affect the national parks like this because there is that notion that a federal shutdown doesn't really affect us in any way," Sadler said.
Sadler and her husband were in Arizona on Sunday. It was day two of their 10-day excursion.
"It's just really disappointing to see kids get really excited for national parks and to go on hikes and be outside and have them look at locked gates. That was really disappointing to see families today."
Sadler and her husband already pre-paid for their upcoming campsites.
However, she said that some of the employees in charge of campsite reservations are off the job until further notice.
They're just hoping things are figured out before Jan. 1.

Hey now! If the woods are good enough for the bears, they’re damn sure good enough for me. ;-)
Merry Christmas.
Couple of Democrap Whiners!
BALD FACED LIE!!!!!
The AZ gov issued a order for the state to take over the national parks and run them till the whole thing is resolved. I hope he doesnt give up the management of that trust so that the scum suckers in DC cant use this, as well as other issues, to punish the people.
They look like the type who would go hiking in Morocco.
More BS.
You must be kidding. The inimitable algore already cancelled all the snow for this winter. Because he’s so magical and stuff. And he’s sweating too. Yewwwwww! LOL!
December wouldn’t be my first choice for a family camping trip.
Can you get across an open bridge or will you fall through.
The park has closed sighs out now. Some snow and no snow plow so thy need to keep the 2wd idiots out.
But, what if they have Blizzaks on their front whell drive gas powered vehicle. See, there are ways.
Merry Christmas.
Something tells me these two dolt vote Dem. Perhaps they should reconsider next time.
Exactly. Lol.
Does a bear .... in the woods? And how difficult is it to clean an outhouse hole in the ground?
Hey, there is some good news— no one will be at the gate to collect the ripoff fee. How much is it now, approaching $40? Weren’t the parks supposed to be free?
All the national parks in Utah are open.
Like I said, I got one of the lifetime passes before the price hike. Paid $15 bucks for it and I believe there are only a couple of parks where it doesn’t work. Me + 3 adults. WOO HOO! Now I gotta use it.
Merry Christmas!
The vending machines were out of Diet Pepsi. Oh no!
Oh my God! I remember seeing him during one of the debates, or at a public appearance he was making. His shirt was so soaked with sweat, you could have wrung a gallon of the stuff from it. Yuck!
I bet NBC really had to dig to find that story.
Gee, where are the reader comments?
