GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A West Michigan native who recently moved to Colorado said she and her husband got a firsthand look at the effects of the government shutdown.
Leeann Sadler, who is originally from Grand Rapids, planned to visit several national parks with her husband. The government shutdown is taking a toll on those plans.
Sadler told 24 Hour News over FaceTime that she and her husband planned their trip six months ago.
"We didn't know that the governrment shutdown would affect the national parks like this because there is that notion that a federal shutdown doesn't really affect us in any way," Sadler said.
Sadler and her husband were in Arizona on Sunday. It was day two of their 10-day excursion.
"It's just really disappointing to see kids get really excited for national parks and to go on hikes and be outside and have them look at locked gates. That was really disappointing to see families today."
Sadler and her husband already pre-paid for their upcoming campsites.
However, she said that some of the employees in charge of campsite reservations are off the job until further notice.
They're just hoping things are figured out before Jan. 1.

They're obviously libs since they don't remember what Obama did during the shutdown in his administration. He closed everything to be spiteful. Not all National Parks are closed this time.
Explain your inconvenience to the Steinle family.
Hmmmm....why didnt they just head South from Arizona and give the kids a look at the border Wall? It would have been a good life lesson.
So is Crater Lake. You’re generally better off without the “help” of the Park staff anyway!
That includes clean toidys. Shocking! Last thing a person wants to worry about while in the wilds of Colorado are clean toilets. For shame.
Total BS. The gates are wide open at PINS (Padre Island National Seashore) and I’m planning a post Christmas fishing trip.
Agreed. The whole area is overrun these days. Hate the buses. Now is the time to visit.
I am supposed to feel bad for this couple..............pfft them. Complain to deep state.
Are they looking for the ark of the covenant in the national parks?
Kate Steinle was not available for comment.
I just can’t stop crying over this horrible, terrible circumstance..ranks right up there with running out of sugar.......oh the humanity....
I remember taking my two kids to Disneyworld when they were young. They were in the beginning of building Epcot Center. I didn't really care about that anyway. Of all the things I wanted to see was the Hall of Presidents, and The Haunted Mansion. I drove down from central NY State with them, and discovered The Haunted Mansion was closed for renovation. We went back a couple of years later, and saw it. Only two times I've ever been there.
When I went back to London in 2007, I had wanted to visit Temple Church. We got there only to find out that it was encased in scaffolding and was closed to tourists. I was looking forward to seeing the grave of William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke who has been called one of the greatest knights in history. I was disappointed with that since I knew I'd never get back to England again. I managed to get some shots of the outside of the church, but would have loved to see the inside in person. I've seen it in documentaries, but it's not the same as actually being there.
the zoos in Grand Rapids and Battle Creek are nice to visit.
And there’s the Air museum in Kalamazoo.
and the car museum in Hickory Corners just outside Kalamazoo.
Four great attractions right there in WOOD-TV country!
plus,
Holland, Michigan is a nice visit ..nearby.
the only downside in the area is Kellogg laid off Tony The Tiger (and closed their visitor center). But the car museum and air museum are SUPER, top=grade attractions! Go and have some FUN! stop bitching
They can come here to New York State and shovel snow if they're bored.
Fake news?
Yosemite and Alcatraz are OPEN per the Sac Bee.
LOL!!
Montana alone has over thirty million acres of public ground, including pack-it-in-pack-it-out campgrounds...
If these people want to see the country they just have to do it without someone holding their hands.
