The Marlin .22 shown above was legally an "assault weapon" in New Jersey from 1990 to 2018
On June 13, 2018, the New Jersey Legislature ratcheted up its already dubious ban on standard capacity magazines of more than 15 rounds. The new infringement banned possession of standard capacity magazines of more than 10 rounds. The law was immediately challenged in court.
On 5 December, 2018, a three judge panel of the Third Circuit ruled the law was Constitutional, because the Second Amendment is a second rate right in the Bill of Rights.
The previous law in New Jersey had banned semi-auto .22 rimfire rifles with tubular magazines that held more than 15 rounds. It was enacted in 1990.
The 1990 law effectively banned numbers of common .22 rimfire hunting rifles in New Jersey. Those included many Marlin model 60 versions, .22 short versions of the Browning semi-auto, Remington 552 rifles, Remington 550 rifles, and any other .22 rimfire with a tubular magazine that holds more than 15 rounds of .22 ammunition.
The law was not a paper tiger. In 1993, Joseph Pelleteri had one of the Marlin .22 rifles that he had won in a contest at a police department. The magazine held 17 rounds of .22 Long Rifle. He was convicted of illegal possession of an assault weapon. He appealed. The appeals court upheld his conviction.

Glad I don’t live there...
Unbelievable. I own a Remington Nylon 66. One of the 50 finest rifles ever made. They don’t make them anymore. Won’t say where it is. Almost a collectors item. God help anyone who tries to take it away.
Sorry-the Nylon 66 holds 14 rounds.
I have a Marlin “Golden 39A Mountie” with the ammo tube system.
Don’t know how many .22s it takes to fill it...
In other news the little drummer boy was taken into custody...parumpa pump pum him and his drum..
If that Marlin 60 is illegal with a 15 round magazine, then my Marlin 60 purchased in 1968 must be really illegal with its 22 round capacity.
The Nylon 66 is one of my all time favorite rifles.
Best small game rifle ever made in my opinion. So light, dependable, and accurate.
My Uncle had a black one he bought that had only been shot a few times. I tried to buy it from him for several years. Finally he needed something from me. I traded him two group 31 batteries for it.
I would humbly suggest that one never discuss firearms ownership on the internet.
Always speak in the abstract and maintain plausible deniability.
It could be worse. Imagine being caught with a Red Ryder carbine action two-hundred shot range model air rifle. The New Jersey State Police would probably shoot your eye out.
Depends.
The 39A can fire 22, 22l, and 22lr. I believe it can fire 24 of the short 22s. I believe with the longer 22lr it can hold 17.
I’d have to search to verify so don’t quote me.
Gun control is about punishing thought, not gun ownership. Thats why the proposed laws make no sense.
Anybody who would ask you if you own guns probably doesn’t believe in private ownership of anything...

I moved from Joisey and my NYC Midtown job, to PA, in 1989.
I earned my first Winchester .22 cal rifle selling magazine subscriptions when I was in the 5th grade. It came in the mail!
I’m thinking we need to endure these 2nd A abuses and hope Trump gets another SC appointment that replaces one of the Rats. I don’t want another 2nd A case going to this SC. We could lose it.
***”Do you own any firearms?” by anyone, the only correct answer is “NO!”.***
My stock answer is...”Break in some night and find out”.
We need a Homeland Defense Bill, a petition that makes the Gov’t stay out of our individual desire to protect ourselves from them and invaders. Unfortunately none of us have the cash to influence the Congress critters to vote for the Bill. Add Congress to vote themselves a 50% increase in salary to the bill, and then it may pass.
The Marlin pictured holds 17 long rifle cartridges in its magazine.
