President Donald Trumps announcement he will withdraw U.S. forces from Syria because the Islamic State (ISIS) has largely been defeated accomplishes two things neither of which is positive. First, it undermines the security of two of our most stalwart Middle East allies, Israel and the Kurds. Second, it rewards our enemies, of which there are more than we openly acknowledge. Clearly, enemies list beneficiaries include the Iran/Syria/Russia alliance and ISIS...

Idiotic. The only way to fight California's fires is to let them burn when it is relatively safe to do so. Instead they put them all out in the name of "air quality" and "carbon sequestration" religion. Moving back to the Middle East, the best way to deal with the various bastards there (apart from Israel) is to let them fight it out in a controlled manner. If one side gets too powerful, and abuses that power, we can launch cruise missiles at them.
Correct on all points.
Israel and the Kurds were doing fine without thousands of US troops in the region. They need material support not US troops.
Trump is not a career government-military-industrial minion, and does not see things as they do. Thank God.
The couple of thousands of troops will be replaced by Saudi troops—another Israeli ally—and the US still has great air and sea capabilities in the region.
This was no impulsive move on Trump’s part, except possibly the exact timing of the announcement.
Saudi Arabia is stepping up, right?
The defense contractors in the “Military Industrial Complex” make money when our military operates and arms are given to “factions” and private contractors “train” fighters for the factions etc. etc. etc.
Libertarians are happy to see the Trump decision and lets hope Trump stays the course, but it wont be easy.
The only reason to put ANY US boots on the ground in that blender was to kill ISIS..which we have done. Assad isnt going anywhere and we werent trying to topple him once Hillary left Washington (who really started that sh.. show). Time to get our boys out of there.
It took so long. President Trump was played for "more time" (they wanted forever) in Afghanistan and believing that the chemical attacks were anything but a Deep State scheme to keep us (illegally) in Syria.
I hope and pray President Trump has wised up. The Manipulators might tank the stock market. The House might initiate impeachment proceedings. I hope President Trump realizes that the best thing he can do is stick to his agenda and do the things he promised.
I fear for the Kurds. But pick a country - any country - and I can give you a couple of reasons why US troops * must * be there.
The Romans thought that way, too. And so did the British. Gotta be everywhere. Gotta have “influence”. (Which leads to: Gotta go broke.)
Gotta keep that war machine running and making us money!! - The Military-Industrial Complex.
According to Amir Tsarfati, an Israeli intel specialist, Israel actually likes the pullout because it give them greater freedom to deal with Iran and Syria. Erdogan claimed during the call that Turkey can finish off ISIS. Since Trump was looking to fulfill a campaign promise to get the troops out of the Middle East, He jumped on Erdogan’s offer. Erdogan was as shocked as anybody when trump accepted his offer. Also, Trump received multiple intel reports from different agencies that Kurds had worked a deal to sell gas and oil to Bashar Asaad. In fact, the Kurds are having official contact with Assaad and are willing to subject themselves to his sovereignty. They are now collaborating together. A new coalition has been formed. Shiits and Iran are included in this coalition group. When Trump realized that he was being deceived, he said enough was enough. These people hate us and are waisting American lives and money on them.
The moron has gone Asiatic and blinded himself to the bigger picture. Nobody has attacked Israel, and if they do Israel is more than capable of Defending themselves all the way up to a very big nuclear Arsenal. As far as Russia, they have been in Syria since 1971 and are an ally to the Syrian government.
We aren’t giving them any gift, or simply recognizing reality. What we are doing in Syria would be akin to Chinese building bases in Canada, fomenting a civil war, and saying if they left they would be doing a favor to the United States.
Yes, the most repressive nation in the Middle East is going to step up and spread freedom.
To me, in this instance, there is no reason to have boots on the ground in Syria. The Turks and Saudis have been enlisted to replace our ground troops and we can still be very effective with air power which has not been ruled out to my knowledge. The trouble with neocons is that they equate American dominance in every geographical sphere of influence with national security. I fail to see an American national security issue in the Middle East. But I do see an interest in maintaining good relations with the moderate Adab states and especially Israel to include military hardware assistance.
I saw that thread too. IMHO ISIS was all but defeated last year, and Trump was saying he wanted out in April. If the situation is so stable that the survivors/winners are negotiating terms on their own without the U.S., we really have no business keeping troops in the country.

Dimbart has really gone down the chute!
We need our troops at home to capture “Blue Helmets” and ship them to gitmo!
