WASHINGTON — Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg underwent surgery on Friday to remove two nodules from her left lung, according to Kathleen Arberg, a Supreme Court spokeswoman. The nodules were discovered during tests following a fall in which Justice Ginsburg fractured her ribs.

My best friend and employer had lung cancer-one of the new drugs that uses your immune system instead of crashing you with chemotherapy got into remission that had him back to work full time and lasted 5 years-but he died 3 years ago of a brain tumor at 68-no one seems to know if it was related to the 1st cancer, but we all suspect that it was...

Truly sorry to hear this, I wish her well.

I’ve read that RBG didn’t want to step down until after 2016 election so the historic first woman president could name her replacement. I’m seeing people on DU wishing she had retired when Obama had the senate his first two years.

KTH Rider: thanks for posting this article because it secretly shows what the NYT really knows, but refuses to say. The “tell” is that there are 6 paragraphs that describe her present condition and give the party line on her alleged prognosis. Then there are 14 (yes, I counted both groups of paragraphs) that read like the biographical epitaph that’s included in most obituaries for prominent people. There’s no reason for those extra paragraphs if they don’t know the real, grim story that they are getting their audience ready to read. It’s a variant of what they did with the Swimmer.

She deserves our prayers and the American people deserve the truth, and Ruth’s handlers didn’t deliver the truth, they did what most Democrats do best... They lied.

Trump better make up a short list of ‘moderate’ conservative judges... It would be an insult to replace her with a right wing judge, so he should just pick a judge who will follow the constitution and not his ‘feelings’.

It would be very stressful for Trump to have to go through another appointment next year. After the Kavanaugh show, I could not even imagine the hordes of evil minions that would emerge clawing on the SCOTUS doors

This is one of the reasons why the Democrats will launch an investigation of Justice Kavanaugh as soon as they take over the house, and will keep it going for as long as possible. One reason is pure spite. Another is because they know there's a good chance President Trump will have an opportunity to nominate another Supreme Court Justice before the end of his first term. With a Kavanaugh investigation underway, the mantra will be: "We should not consider any additional nominees for the Supreme Court while a current member of the court is under investigation." It's a totally ridiculous argument, but one they'll try to make along with their allies in the media.

RBG is a cancer and needs to be removed.

Multiple tumors likely means metastasis from one of her prior cancers. Never good.

Typically surgeons don't go after lung metastases. There is no survival value, especially at her age.

These were likely small, synchronous primary lung cancers, and likely PET scanning was used to confirm there was no other malignancy elsewhere prior to resection (likely small wedge resections rather than pneumonectomy, but that is my guess).

She is 85 years old. She is entitled to these by virtue of her age.

Even though she is now felt to be cancer-free, the warranty period on her negative body scanning is only 6 months, at her age.

I don’t wish harm to anybody but what I do have a problem with is the way some of our public servants insist on hanging onto their seats of power to their dying breath. John McCain was but a recent example. Should have retired with some dignity, let some healthier person take his seat and enjoyed his last days with family and friends. But no, too selfish and egotistical for that. A total disservice to the people he was supposed to serve.

At her age, its almost bewildering that she even recovered from the anesthesia, let alone the trauma of lung surgery.

Old Scratch is not ready for her to die just yet.

He has work for her still.

Its been known for years that the FR search engine often fails.

It's not the FR SEARCH ENGINE that fails. It's the USER INPUT that fails.

In the case of the FR SEARCH ENGINE, I have found that LESS is MORE.

Instead of trying to input the whole TITLE LINE, just input the most important identifying word. For instance- Input "Ginsburg" and it will show all the threads with the name GINSBURG.

That she recovered from the anesthesia may not have really happened. Post operative cognitive disorder is very likely at her age, as well as from previous operations.

My mother passed at 91 of stomach cancer..she lived a year after diagnosis with extended radiation treatments!

91 is not a bad run if you’ve had a decent life. My grandfather passed way from cancer at 83. His mother, my great grandmother, died 5 years later at 103. My grandmother died at 99. Good genes. If I can stay off the booze and cigarettes, I might hit 90 myself. My wife’s family also has a history of longevity, so hopefully my kids (both in their 20s at the moment) will hit 100 easily given the medical advances that will be made in the next 50 years.
