To many Marines, Mattis was almost the second coming of Chesty Puller. Someone in the swamp got to him.

Agree. It’s Syria. With that kind of rash, uninformed decision-making coming from the CIC, who would want to be SOD?

And just like that, the Democrats suddenly found reasons to keep troops in Syria-Iraq!

Not surprising at all for these positions to change. Trump is running about the same pace as C level corporate executive placements.

True. I read a study a couple of years ago by the (improbably named) executive placement firm Challenger, Grey & Christmas, saying that the average tenure in an executive position in the U.S. was a little over 2 years. It probably has something to do with accountings being made quarterly. Stock price down for two quarters? You're out.

This would not happen with a democrat because all those people would be good politically connected friends of the president.

“With that kind of rash, uninformed decision-making coming from the CIC, who would want to be SOD?”

POTUS made a great and long overdue decision on this.

But, it seems you’re not onboard.

Which causes me to question your motive and what the hell you’re doing on this site.

Iran, Russia, are salivating at this. It is a strategic region and in our country’s interests to have a presence there. We only have 2000 troops there and under Trump they’ve been very effective. It’s not like Iraq, or even Afghanistan, where we tried nation building for a bunch of savages. That’s not what we’re doing there. The 9-11 killers had their center 7000 miles from New York. Syria is a vipers nest and we are the mongoose keeping them from exporting their venom.

I’m here because it’s a free country and people who don’t agree with you are at liberty to post an opposing argument. It’s even in the name of the website: FREE Republic.

“It is a strategic region and in our country’s interests to have a presence there.”

What’s the interest? And, why was it not in the US interest, ever in the past to have troops in Syria?

The only interests I hear expressed by most Neocons is “stop Iran and Russia” from having it.

And that’s the classic “domino theory”, but without a behemoth superpower behind it.

I contend the only US Interest in Syria is to see Assad in control of every square inch of Syrian territory, and the civil peace.
