Beware of the Trump Curse!:

Most of my fellow members of the mainstream media are of the opinion that last week was a bad one for President Donald Trump.
I beg to differ.
Last week it was announced that the Weekly Standard was going out of business. It seems there’s no market for a “conservative” publication dedicated to opposing Trump.
That’s good news. It’s further proof that - if there’s one thing Trump has done since assuming office - it is solidifying his support among conservatives.
As for the “conservatives” who worked in the offices of the Standard until last week, only inside the Beltway could such characters as editor Bill Kristol be considered conservative. If you doubt that, consider the current scrum over immigration. If The Donald goes ahead and shuts down the government later this week over funding his border wall, that may anger the establishment. But it will serve to solidify his support out here in the hinterlands. It’s left to the inside-the Beltway Republicans to say the sort of thing Kristol said about immigration last year.
In an interview, Kristol began by saying that “basically if you are in free society, a capitalist society, after two or three generations of hard work everyone becomes kind of decadent, lazy, spoiled — whatever.
“Then, luckily, you have these waves of people coming in from Italy, Ireland, Russia, and now Mexico, who really want to work hard and really want to succeed … and aren’t sort of clipping coupons or hoping that they can hang on and meanwhile grew up as spoiled kids and so forth.”
Kristol prefaced that by saying, “I hope this isn’t being videotaped.” But it was. And in conservative circles, that video is circulated in the same way the video of Hillary Clinton’s speech about “the deplorables” was.

Yet in fact the Weekly Standard was started and built up by his FATHER, not him.
His dad HANDED HIM the magazine:

Bill Kristol is the *ULTIMATE* HYPOCRITE.
They are vile cancerous scum. Kristol and the staff of the Weekly Standard are plugged in with permanent Washington. They will be provided cushy comfortable ways to make more money then they have a right to make, and continue pontificating about how bad the fly over Americans are.

The Weekly Standard (which I read for a while) left ‘breadcrumbs’ and did have two or three really great articles each week. But in the spring of 2016, with the primary season in full-bloom....their attitude was that Trump could not be the winner. Rather than make a case purely on conservative issues...they were continually trying to lead you back to a Jeb-like situation, or a Rubio-like situation....both destined to be guaranteed losers against Hillary. They were strictly the ‘horse’ to pull a wagon of half-hearted GOP-voters.

Got to be careful for that kind of thinking. I saw a link on Drudge today saying MSNBC is winning the ratings war in December. If mags and voices like the Standard are dried up, then the voice that many who aren’t big Trump fans may turn to would be Maddow and O’Donnell.
Failure and financial ruin is an absolutely perfect finish for them.

I would not quite equate them, but I certainly considered Buckley a barely sufferable elitist - and I blame him for gratuitously vilifying the John Birch Society.

I wonder if Kristol is fine with Israel having waves of Syrian, Jordanian, etc. immigrants who want to work hard and replace those “lazy, decadent” Israelis.
