Testing positive for HIV was difficult enough. Getting forced out of the military by the Air Force because of the diagnosis proved even harder.
So say two U.S. airmen who filed suit on Wednesday against Defense Secretary Jim Mattis in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, arguing that the Pentagons decision last month to discharge them from the military owing to their HIV status violates the Constitutions equal protection clause and federal law. They have asked the court to strike down the decision.
Both active-duty airmen said they tested positive for HIV last year during Air Force screenings. After they started antiretroviral treatments, their doctors deemed them asymptomatic and physically fit to deploy, and their commanders backed their continued service. They intended to pursue lengthy Air Force careers after serving for more than half a decade in logistics and maintenance roles.
Last month, however, the two airmen received word that they had been deemed unfit for military service and would be discharged. The stated reason: The U.S. military bans personnel with HIV from deploying to the Middle East, where the majority of Air Force members are expected to go.

Ridiculous that they can remain in the service.
I think there are new regs or procedures in the military since DJT became POTUS, something about everyone must be deployable. Those who are not deployable generally need to be separated. I cannot think that having a potentially fatal and contagious disease would make someone deployable. JMHO
So, possibly exposing other Troops to a deadly communicable Disease isn’t enough of a reason to keep someone out of the Military now?
Got it.
The World has gone off the rails.
A no win situation for the Air Force and a no lose situation for progressives.
If the Air Force leaves them in and they infect others...well we know how this works..
“Rule By Anecdote”
Insane than anyone with a contagious disease would be permitted to remain in service. Insane.
How fast can they run two miles?
I always thought service members had to meet a certain standard of health in order to remain in the military. Has that changed?
Excellent example.
Theres a long list of disqualifying conditions.
One reason for “gays in the military” was to allow HIV+ men to get free health care.
And can they perform at 110% if needed? Lives depend on it.
Well, yeah.
What did they think would happen when they stopped barring queers from enlisting?
The comical thing here is that weight-issue airman still get tossed out and no one stands up for them.
something about everyone must be deployable.

Yes, they ‘huffed & puffed’ but in the ‘end’, eased off.
Once you let ‘them’ marry etc, there is no stemming the tide.
Just look around, and you see HES winning events for SHES and the shes just smile and say isn’t that wonderful, the world is finally a good place.
Russia and China should sue US and the Olympic Committee for all the years “WE” demanded the HE/shes were being stripped of medals and getting turned away.
THEY were just ‘questionable’.
Todays version is the fully equipped model ...
How did that thing fare in the Miss Universe contest? Must not have won as the world didn’t ‘cheer’....
I believe those are Marines coming out of battle near Con Thien in 1967. Yeah, lots of blood.
