Comments such as that add nothing to the thread but to generate arguments and destroy the friendly banter from those who follow it.

You're arguing for a level of moderation that far exceeds what's reasonable for an open discussion forum like FR. Jim has (wisely) never set such strict ground rules for this forum.

It's true that many comments here add little to the conversation, but I respect others' right to express them. They don't prevent me from following the train of more pertinent comments on any thread.

Don't be a TROLL. Stay on topic, don't flame, don't engage in flamewars, feuds, cross-thread arguments, stalking or harassment. If you don't like the subject or topic of the thread to the point you become abusive or trollish, stay off it.

That's a pretty simple request, wouldn't you think?
