Arizona Governor Doug Ducey has appointed former Republican Congresswoman Martha McSally to fill late Senator John McCain's seat.
"All her life, Martha has put service first leading in the toughest of fights and at the toughest of times, Ducey released in a statement Tuesday morning. She served 26 years in the military; deployed six times to the Middle East and Afghanistan; was the first woman to fly in combat and command a fighter squadron in combat; and shes represented Southern Arizona in Congress for the past four years. With her experience and long record of service, Martha is uniquely qualified to step up and fight for Arizonas interests in the U.S. Senate. I thank her for taking on this significant responsibility and look forward to working with her and Senator-Elect Sinema to get positive things done.

Over the last year, Ive traveled across this great state, meeting with countless Arizonans, and listening to them, McSally said. Ive heard about the challenges they face and the hopes they have for the future and Ive learned a lot. I am humbled and grateful to have this opportunity to serve and be a voice for all Arizonans. I look forward to working with Senator-Elect Kyrsten Sinema and getting to work from day one.
Senator Jon Kyl, who was appointed by Ducey in September to temporarily fill McCain's seat, is applauding the move.
"Because she currently represents Arizona in the US Congress, Martha McSally certainly has the knowledge and experience to represent our State in the Senate," Kyl said. "Moreover, she is highly energetic, smart and committed to finding practical solutions to problems facing our State and Nation. She is an excellent choice."
My husbands greatest legacy was placing service to AZ & USA ahead of his own self-interest. I respect @dougducey's decision to appoint @RepMcSally to fill the remainder of his term. Arizonans will be pulling for her, hoping that she will follow his example of selfless leadership Cindy McCain (@cindymccain) December 18, 2018

“She also has support in the state from many conservatives.”
Really? The folks I know held their noses while voting for her.
Maybe you ought to enlarge your circle of friends and associates before you claim to be the oracle for all of Arizona.
“Maybe you ought to enlarge your circle of friends and associates before you claim to be the oracle for all of Arizona.”
Don’t CLAIM to be anything. Shared my experience. You don’t have to like it. Didn’t meet a single person ANYWHERE who was excited about voting for McSally. And obviously a LOT of Republicans voted for Sinema instead. What does THAT say?
Did Sinema run, to some extent, as a Mormon?
Apparently they are more "fed up and burned out" with their own fellow Republicans who aren't conservative enough for them, than they are about ceding power to the liberal democRATS by making it easier for their own radical Left candidates to win. All because those same "conservatives refused" to vote for someone in their own party who didn't pass the conservative purity smell test.
That same approach in the 2016, would have gotten Hillary Clinton elected and not Donald Trump. It also just got Kyrsten Sinema elected to the senate instead of McSally.
Political purity in a candidate is hard to find. And if you do find one perfect candidate every once in a while, then they are unelectable. Political purity denotes extreme positions for both parties. And those extreme Left and Right candidates never win.
Cutting off our only nose to spite our collective faces while we await the perfect conservative candidate to wander in from the wilderness. That's not a strategy. It's a death knell.
Meanwhile, the democRATS are throwing everybody up against the wall to see who sticks and runs with those that do. Some of them win, some of them don't and those that don't, they cheat to get them over the finish line as the winners.
Conservatives, in the meantime, sit on the sidelines waiting for that pure-as-driven-snow white knight to show up and let the democRATS have the run of the playground.
This is how they get power. They are relentless, corrupt, lying, cheating SOBs but they don't care. Liberals just want the power. Conservatives want the purity.
Not as a practicing Mormon.
Amen! I’m glad you pointed that out!
I had heard it suggested that a lot of the “Republican” voters in Mesa voted for Ducey for governor and Sinema for senate because she was nominally Mormon.
The “purity” issue is used as an epithet against the “deplorables.” It was used over and over against people who refuse to vote for Republicans who do nothing but serve the Derp State and grow an ever-expanding government. It rings utterly hollow.
We’re not asking for purity, we’re asking for honesty and integrity. We’re sick of being lied to year after year by the same group of phonies and being used and abused by them while they do nothing for us. Why would any sane person keep voting for a Republican who serves the Democrat agenda ?
McQueeg himself did incalculable damage to this country, yet you still have idiots running around saying we gotta support him because the Democrat would be worse ! Wrong. HE was worse. He not only lied from the moment he began running for office about his true intentions, he absolutely served the leftist agenda, he did everything he could in his power to sabotage the Conservative agenda. He would’ve done so had he been the nominee for President in 2000 and let Gore win the election. Even in 2004, he was going to make it official and become a Democrat and run with Kerry as his VP (only that the Dems told him he couldn’t be sold to them despite his being a non-Conservative). In 2008, he was going to deliberately go down in flames with Joe Lieberman as his running mate (only for the establishment GOP to tell him they couldn’t sell Lieberman to us dumb schmucks). Still, he allowed himself to be the ringer to Zero, acting as his de facto campaign manager instead of, y’know, running against the most egregious radical ever nominated for the Presidency.
No, sir, it’s integrity, credibility and ideology. We’ve been used and abused for decades. Not since Reagan in 1980 until Trump in 2016 did we finally get another candidate who meant what he said. I for one will no longer defend a candidate who is a Derp (sic) Stater, one who serves the beast destroying this country, one who can barely hold their contempt for mainstream Americans, and one whose record is obviously not with us. I’m just sick and fed up with liars. Fail to run someone with that aforementioned integrity and don’t act shocked when too many “deplorables” decide they’ve had quite enough. It’s no wonder between the Flakes, the McQueegs, the Marfas, the Duceys, et al, why the AZ GOP is sinking. And, unfortunately, not just there — look at California that jettisoned its integrity people for RINO Marxists. The party is now nearly dead. But that’s what happens when you can’t tell your opponents apart from the jokes that claim to be on your team (and really aren’t).
Exactly!
Suburban cucks who disapprove of the President voted for Enema. I think that says they they are focking idiots who were unlikely to vote for any Republican nominee for Senate this year, let alone one to McSallys right, maybe they would’ve voted for McCain’s porker daughter but certainly not say Kelli Ward.
McSally took flack for being SUPPORTIVE of Trump and every indication is that he approves of this appointment and may well have flat out *preferred* it.

I think everyone having a fit over this to chill.
Here in western Arizona McSally swept the counties. We’re a bunch of rednecks and she was good enough for us. Sinema won by taking Flag, Phoenix and Tucson metro areas. How many republicans do you think live there particularly in grijalvaland?
Ohhh puke
It went to a D. Her old U S House of Rep Congressional district actually had more registered Ds.
“Were a bunch of rednecks and she was good enough for us.”
Well, a lot of us south of Tucson preferred Trump to Hillary - something McSally would not commit to! And a lot of us are not thrilled by open borders. McSally wasn’t urged into the House or favored by Mitch McConnell because of a strong belief in protecting the borders!
I live in the district McSally ran in and finally won. Maybe those of us who have lived with her as a congresswoman know something you “rednecks” do not: WHO SHE REALLY IS! My local area is very Republican in a House district that bounces back and forth between parties, and is now Democrat again after the GOP pulled all funding for the Republican candidate running to replace McSally!
The same GOP that loved McSally abandoned us again in this district. For all practical purposes, the Democrat here ran unopposed. The same people who loved McSally shut off funding to stop the Democrat here. Ever wonder why? Or wonder what McSally REALLY believes?
The Republicans around me are ones who know McSally, and none of us seem to believe in her! We held our noses and voted for her because the alternative was a Democrat. But make no mistake: The party backing McSally is quite content with a Democrat in this district. Think about it!
Actually, D. J. I do NOT want “integrity.”
I just want the vote. I don’t care if they mean it, don’t mean it, are voting to get elected, are voting cuz they read the “Federalist Papers.”
All that matters is the vote.
Well, I do. Because that means we don’t have to worry about every important vote and if they’ll vote the wrong way. I’m sick of being “represented” by individuals who lack for these important characteristics. They’re a premier example as to why we are in such a terrible state of affairs today.
If they vote the right way, I could care less about their motivations. I just want results.
