The Trump administration is officially banning bump-fire stocks, senior Justice Department officials told CNN Tuesday.
Under a new federal rule, those who possess the devices, commonly known as bump stocks, will get 90 days to turn them in from the date that the final rule is published in the federal register, which is likely Friday, the officials said.
Bump stocks gained national attention last year after a gunman in Las Vegas rigged his weapons with the devices to fire on concertgoers, killing 58 people. President Donald Trump vowed to outlaw the devices soon after the tragedy, and some lawmakers on Capitol Hill urged him to back a permanent legislative fix.
But opposition from lawmakers and the National Rifle Association ultimately made a regulatory change the only realistic path forward to accomplishing the President's goal.

You are correct! I never said I agree with it. I emphatically don’t. I said that’s the way it is. And, I’ll state again the FACT that automatic weapons are not banned.

I never shrugged. I simply stated a fact. If you can argue that that statement is wrong, I’m all ears, and I will apologize profusely for being wrong. Convince me that there is a ban on automatic weapons based on federal law.

I agree that it is not a federal ban as such.
There is, however, the concept of a de facto ban. I would assert that this qualifies.

The question I have is if this is a signal that Trump is going to Dump the 2nd.
He already has. The question now is "how much more of it is he going to dump?"

And there's the problem: If 0bama had done this, everybody on this thread would be rightly piling insults and invective of the most sulfurous sort upon his head.
But 0bama didn't do this. Trump did.
And some people can't accept that Trump can do things wrong, so they have to rationalize it and let him get away with it.

I’m going to make one more comment, and then I’ll shut up. At the beginning of this year a friend of mine bought a MAC 10 .45 fully automatic firearm for $8,000. He went through the legal process (which he said was not as difficult as he thought it would be) and, about 7 months later, got his tax stamp and took possession of the firearm. If they are banned, de facto or otherwise, how is that possible?
Trump did not betray me, I will let you know when he does.
Riddle me this, suthener:
If the Hughes Amendment (look it up) hadn’t banned the non-government possession of machine-guns manufactured after 1986, how much do you suppose that MAC-10 would cost?
Can you list for me all the mechanical, technical, engineering reasons why an M-16 with a 3 position selector switch costs at least an order of magnitude more than an AR-15 with a 2 position selector switch?
Either:
1) You hold the Second Amendment in contempt.
or
2) You don’t understand “shall not be infringed” any more than he does
or
3) Trump betrayed you.
If I had one, I would still have one.
No it’s the most important right, but we don’t agree on bump stocks.
