Some residents of small-town Sardis, Miss. say they are very troubled at officials’ decision to knowingly crown a registered sex offender as “Grand Marshal” of their annual Christmas parade, according to a report from KAIT. Carolyn Whaley, who owns The Eclectic Emporium on Main Street where the Christmas parade passed by on Tuesday, says “everyone in Sardis knows that Michael Saripkin, the Grand Marshal, is a sex offender,” KAIT reports. “Everybody knows that; it’s a small town,” Whaley said. “It doesn’t bother me. He’s a very nice, friendly man. He has donated more money, helped the fire department, helped the police department [and] encouraged businesses to come here.”... Records show Saripkin, a business man, was convicted for a third sex crime in 2013, in Mississippi, for “inappropriately touching a child as a person of trust,” KAIT reports. Prior to his most recent Mississippi conviction, he was convicted in Tennessee of statutory rape in 1997 and with sexual battery in 1990.

Grew up in a small town, just about the size of this one, in the middle of nowhere. The father of a friend of my sister’s owned the local flower shop, and was believed to be homosexual. One day, there was an “incident” of some kind following a “sleep over” at their home. That night, a group of men went to his home, beat the living hell out of him, and told him that they would kill him if he was not out of the county by sunset the next day. He left. (This kind of thing happened more than once as I was growing up. Another pedophile “went missing”.) I know this as my sister’s friend called a couple of days later to talk about why they left town so suddenly. It was good to grow up around men who protected their families and their community. These were indeed the good old days, now long since passed.
Someone should have handed out eggs to the crowd.

That’s a good story but the reality is they were just kicking the can down the road to another town. Better that the can should have been put into the compacter.
