I knew a boat owner who used them in his oil filter. And of course, they can be used in a first aid kit to do their real jobabsorb blood.

Tampons and Kotex pads make great battle dressings.
They are absorbent, sterile, soak up blood damn good, come in individual sterile packets, easy to pack a lot of them.
And they are a hell of a lot cheaper than store bought bandages, if you can even find dressings big enough for large serious wounds.
