On Friday's Andrea Mitchell Reports, host Mitchell asserted that Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was "blaming the victim" when she correctly warned that it is very dangerous to cross the desert illegally in reaction to recent news of a child dying of dehydration after her father crossed the desert illegally from Mexico.
Correspondent Jacob Soboroff suggested that the Trump administration is "forcing" illegals to cross under dangerous circumstances through the desert because of long wait times at legal ports of entry. And, in the segment that lasted eight minutes, no one got around to clarifying that the number of detainees who die in the custody of Border Patrol each year is about the same as it was during the Obama administration.
Mitchell: Trump Admin 'Blaming the Victim' After Child of Illegal Dies
At 12:46 p.m. Eastern, after recalling that the girl died in Border Patrol custody after her father reportedly took her through the desert, depriving her of food and water for days, Mitchell then brought aboard Soboroff who soon complained:
It's a terrible situation, Andrea, but it's not one, I hate to say, that is all that surprising given the conditions that migrants are crossing in these days because of the enforcement strategy by the Trump administration and, critics would say, largely forcing people to cross in the desert, having a hard time presenting in ports of entry.
He soon noted that "deaths in the desert are going up," as he related that some blame the Trump administration's "deterrent-type policy."
A bit later, right-leaning never Trump MSNBC contributor Charlie Sykes declared that President Donald Trump is "demagoguing" a "humanitarian crisis" on the border, and complained about "cruelty."
"We have the juxtapositon of the cruelty and the human loss versus the crude distortion that we're getting from the White House. We're seeing this week the intersection of the corruption and cruelty of this administration," Sykes stated.
Mitchell soon showed a clip of Secretary Nielsen from the same day's Fox and Friends in which she warned against the dangers of illegal immigrants crossing through the desert. In reaction, Mitchell bristled: "That sounds to me like blaming the victim."
Former Democratic Congressman Steve Israel not surprisingly then agreed with her negative critique of Nielsen as he responded.
MANY years ago, I had a temperature of 106 when I was in the sixth grade.
I woke up sick on Christmas morning, and was sick for about two weeks. I had a strep throat at the time, too.
I had to take penicillin and felt really warm, but slowly recovered.
What about her unfit parent, who took her on this dangerous journey? No American parent would get away with that type of child abuse.
Please explain why Sarah Palin’s “Runner’s World” cover photo being on the cover of NewsweAk with an angry looking Ahn-dreaaah holding said magazine has anything to do with this?
Just because Ahn-dreaah ?
The lovely and witty Sarah: “Wow! That IS a great picture of me! Todd will love it! Check out those killer legs! And don’t you wish your complexion was as smooth and clear as mine is Andrea hmmmm? Your face looks like 5 lbs. of over cooked moose burger! Bite me Andrea”.
“Blaming the victim?” OMG! The ADULT with this child should be charged with MURDER!!!!!!!!!!!!
And didn’t Obama change the rules about sharing these type of documents just before he left office.
Their whole story is falling apart: https://www.chicksonright.com/youngconservatives/2018/12/14/the-viral-story-of-7-year-old-migrant-girl-who-died-in-border-patrols-custody-begins-to-unravel/
Make sure they don't take any mockingbirds with them . . .
There are some women who just ruin men.
Jane Fonda with Ted Turner and Andrea Mitchell with Alan Greenspan.
I don’t care what the hag Mitchell has to say.
“...Trump administration is “forcing” illegals to cross under dangerous circumstances...”
What an utterly STUPID statement..............
Good you recovered!
Kind of a stretch BUT
I suppose if I were to go rob a bank and took my 5 year old with me and a teller called the Police who arrived and we engaged in a shoot out and my 5 yo assumes room temp, I guess I could sue the teller for reckless endangerment and the Police for murder.
Better keep the DNA on this poor child as I have a feeling about 50 or so couples will show up claiming the child is theirs so they can jump on Unka Sugahs band wagon with automatic citizenship and the full benny package because ‘we’ killed their child.
I’ve said it before, the media really really wants a kid to die so they can use that to hammer Trump as cruel and rally women to hate him. They want it so bad, they are so warped that the thought of a dead child only fills them with anticipation. It’s killing them that this kid died in custody and there’s no film or photos of it.
Well you stupid beyotch, it wasn’t the U.S. government’s fault that the mother didn’t make sure her kid was properly fed and hydrated while dragging her cross country.
I just added her name to my SHTF list. When CWII starts I will know where to begin.
This old hag will never hang it up. She’ll still be dispsening the anti-Conservative bile when she’s in a wheelchair at 99.
If it would have been an American citizen the parent would have been immediately arrested and charged with “child endamgerment resulting in death” and locked up with multi-million dollar bail.
Interesting information there.
It doesn’t sound as if the father was making an effort to make Border Patrol aware that his daughter was ill, and I don’t think that there was any way he could have not known that she was ill.
If I read the article correctly, it was 2 hours after the group surrendered to Border Patrol before she was seen by EMS. Not the Border Patrol’s fault, if they were not aware that she was sick. That means she died 6 hours after her illness was discovered. IMO, that means she was pretty close to death when anyone in Border Patrol became aware that she was sick. I have no doubt that everything possible was done to save her and she was too far gone by then. IMO, not the fault of anyone except those she was traveling with, including the father.
Legal or illegal, medical personnel are going to fight and fight hard to save a child. I don’t think anyone wants to see any of these people die. Wanting them to go back to where they came from isn’t wishing for their deaths.
The parents murdered that child. The child just happen to expire in custody.
