The Boy Scouts of America is considering filing for bankruptcy protection as it faces dwindling membership and escalating legal costs related to lawsuits over how it handled allegations of sex abuse.
Leaders of the Boy Scouts, one of the country’s largest youth organizations, have hired law firm Sidley Austin LLP for assistance with a possible chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, according to people familiar with the matter.

It’s a shame that what was once a right of passage has been corrupted beyond recognition at the hands of the liberals. Girls Scouts are next.

To do so in perpetuity, we are working with experts to explore all options available to ensure that the local and national programming of the Boy Scout of America continues uninterrupted. We have a social and moral responsibility to fairly compensate victims who suffered abuse during their time in Scouting, and we also have an obligation to carry out our mission to serve youth, families and local communities through our programs.
We care deeply about all victims of child sex abuse and we are steadfast in our belief that one incident of child abuse is one too many. We sincerely apologize to anyone who was harmed during their time in our programs. As you all know, we have always taken care of victims – we believe them, we believe in fairly compensating them and we have paid for unlimited counseling, by a provider of their choice, regardless of the amount of time that has passed since an instance of abuse. Throughout our history we have taken proactive steps to help victims heal and prevent future abuse. I want to stress that at no time in our history have we knowingly allowed a sexual predator to work with youth, and we always seek to act swiftly when alerted to abuse allegations.
Please know that these matters continue to have the full attention of the highest levels of our organization, and we will communicate transparently as there are developments or updates to share. I wanted to update you today due to the news speculation, and I want to assure you that our daily mission will continue and that there are no imminent actions or immediate decisions expected.

There are more queer priests and child abusers in the Roman catholic church in Los Angeles or Pittsburgh than in the entire BSA organization.
Christians get a pass but not the BSA
It is amazing how sexual abuse allegations have been used to take down some of our most prominent and cherished institutions.
Yes I understand that there is sexual abuse and I am not disputing it.
I also know this is the way the totalitarians in the Soviet Union dismantled and eliminated opposition.
But you've created an environment in which sexual predators can flourish.
Just what the left wants.

I weep that the Socialists have managed to destroy a great American organization. They were able to do it by attacking it from within.
BSA leadership should be personally liable for these sexual abuse claims.
A parent would have to be stupid beyond belief to put their boy in the hands of a pederast-friendly organization.

I was in scouting from 57 - 64, Boyscouts and explorers. Not once did I see, hear or experience anything untoward. It helped set me up for life and gave me so many good experiences.
The moment you started making compromises was the moment you lost the organization. You cannot take an entity bases on honor and compromise it.
Personally, as much as I love scouting I would rather see it fold than to continue on in its current state.
As I noted on another post last night, we were deeply invested in BSA but left December 31, 2013. On January 1, 2014, our entire troop changed flags and joined Trail Life USA.
There was a period of grief for a once great organization. I feel badly for those who didn’t have the guts or wherewithal to leave and take a different trail.
It’s a hard decision for some. It was less hard for us because we firmly believed that the organizational aims went directly against our beliefs and against Scripture.
It took 103 years for BSA to make their first major cave.
In the ensuing five years the cave-in’s have increased in frequency with seemingly no fight.

Changing the name to Scouts USA to be more “inclusive.”
Next will be open acceptance of atheists.
Pretty soon, the scout law will be easier to memorize. Might go down to 3-4 points instead of 12.

Boys are loud, obnoxious, active and everything else you can imagine. They have the attention span of tank of goldfish. We thrive on leading and guiding them to become the courageous young men God envisioned for them.
And it begins. As I was typing this, I got an email from someone interested in their son joining Trail Life.
