The Vatican under the direction of Pope Francis will soon change the verbiage in the Lords Prayer to clarify God does not, in fact, tempt people.
The pope has taken issue with the phrase, Lead us not into temptation, one stanza of the Lords Prayer found in Matthew 6:9-13.

This is definitely a right wing Methodist Church, small town in Bible Belt. Many of my new neighbors also go to the church. I do miss a traditional Catholic Mass, though.
fair enough, I just did not want you walking into an ambush, so to speak.
Merry Christmas and God Bless!
the 23rd Psalm and The Lords prayer go hand in hand.
1The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name... 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: ...
The Good Shepherd is never going to lead His sheep into temptation, but away from it!
I thought so too until I considered the following “but deliver us from evil.” If He is not doing the leading, then who is doing the delivering? I believe the change is incorrect. Not that we ever expect Him to lead us into temptation.
That’s interesting. It does seem weird that he would keep testing us with trials when we have already decided we belong to him. Many people, Robert Frost included, have thought that he does (”It was the nature of the test that you not understand it at the time”).
It makes much more sense that the world, the diabolic powers, are tempting us. He is not mean. We can foolishly project onto him all the human meanness that we have known, in others and in ourselves. He is perfect. It’s this world that throws us a challenge.
I will be out of tempo with the rest of the congregation when saying the Our Father at mass. They will eventually get use to it and a few will probably join me in protest saying it the OLD FASHIONED way. F- this substitute pope usurper.
Gosh - the Pope who neglects to preach Jesus, now thinks he knows better than Jesus...ironic that the Catholic Church wouldn’t exist if not for Jesus...the top dogs must hate having someone with authority higher than theirs....
‘If God had not told Adam and Eve not to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they wouldn’t have been kicked out of paradise.’
yes, and He told them that knowing full well they would do so...some test...
I say it that way. Am I going to Hell?
Franklin Graham was on fox and friends yesterday and I think he said that they are studying this and there could be a translation issue. Said scholars have been looking/debating this for many years.
Keep us away from temptation and protect us from evil.
Keep us away from temptation and protect us from evil.
More concise...
The Methodist church belongs to the National Council of Churches, which is a vey liberal organization. Check it out. We left the very liberal ELCA for the LCMS. All churches in the NCC are very liberal.
I guess when Cardinal Cupich said that the Pope had more important things to do than address the child molestation and sexual harassment crisis in the Church, he was thinking of things like this . . . .
The Catholic church has manipulated the Gospel and the Word for ages.....nothing new or unexpected here
1) That prayer came straight from the lips of Jesus Christ himself. The fact that Frankie thinks he can change it speaks to his bottomless supply of hubris.
2) We all KNOW what the prayer means. Absolutely NOBODY believes that God is the one leading them into temptation.
The Pope is an arrogant ass. And he thinks you’re stupid.
Another humorous line I have always loved:
“If it were not so, I would have told you.”
