Not changing it. Not for this dimwit of a pope.

“No tinkering needed. “

How about 2000 years of tinkering ...

In other words, lead us away from temptation. It’s not really that hard to understand.

1 Corinthians 10:13 shows that Paul indicated that G-d won’t let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.

Let no man, when he is tempted, say that he is tempted by God. For God is not a tempter of evils, and he tempteth no man. But every man is tempted by his own concupiscence, being drawn away and allured. Then when concupiscence hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin. But sin, when it is completed, begetteth death. Do not err, therefore, my dearest brethren.

I think we all know we are not beseeching God not to lead us into a temptation trap. We are asking to be lead away from temptation. Simply reads better.

Another translation from the Aramaic:

Our Father who is in heaven,

Hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come; your will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our bread for tomorrow;

Refresh our souls with the water of life.

And forgive us every one our debts

As we also have forgiven our debtors.

Save us in temptation, deliver us from evil,

And increasingly make us perfect like yourself.

I always thought it meant for God to keep us from temptation.

I will continue to say the Lord’s prayer in the same manner except that I will raise my voice slightly when I get to the phrase: And lead us not into temptation. I will also continue to withhold money from the Catholic Church until this Pope has left.

No Marxist Pope is changing any prayer for me.

Why do you just ignore this part of the article and make it sound like a snap and solo decision by the Pope:

experts have been studying the biblical text for 16 years and recently concluded, “from a theological, pastoral and stylistic viewpoint,” the centuries-old wording used in English translations of the Bible is incorrect.

be careful there, most methodists I know are decidedly left-wing. My father-in-law (a Methodist “minister”) being the most glaring example.

Just my two cents . . .

Which translation is wrong? I speak several languages and it is the same in all of them.

“God tempts no man,” Spurgeon said.

Yeah, tell that to Job.

Leftists have to ruin everything. It’s their nature. They are soulless, joyless people.

“He provided the temptations, and also gave us free will for us to make the proper decisions.”

Yes. It seems reasonable that Adam and Eve had discussions about the tree in the midst of the garden that they were not free to eat from prior to the tempter showing up. It was enticing just for that reason, like a “Do Not Walk on the Grass” sign, or the tag on a mattress that says, “Do not remove this tag”. The temptation was already there before the devil showed up to toy with them about it. Temptation was a test, or a chance to decide to be obedient or disobedient. When the playground bully showed up, they gave into thoughts they already had.

The discussion between the serpent and Eve is very interesting in that light. “Didn’t God say...?” Says the tempter. And then he adds a small change to God’s prohibition, “neither shall you touch it” - and Eve doesn’t correct him, already straying from the Word by accepting this revision. That is what is happening today.

These revisions and “improvements” upon what has already been written are man changing God’s Word to suit himself and his carnal nature. Man is challenging God by adding and subtracting from what has been written in order to please himself (”man” meaning, humans, for the hyper-sensitives out there). This will not end well for these people if God is who He says He is.
