Wow. That’s just wrong. Mrs. Fields was definitely in the right while the judgement was so very, very wrong.

I thought perhaps the discrimination was that they hadn’t put enough chocolate chips in their cookies, and violated affirmative action/quota guidelines.

$26K ... cost of defense settlement? Can more companies agree to pay a similar amount to not hire non-citizens? That would be amazing.

What? So, Mrs. Fields trying to ensure it complies with THE LAW about illegals makes it BAD?

But, small farm companies taking illegals under the table...OK?

Telling you - all this would go away if the MINIMUM WAGE nonsense price-fixing was repealed.

Only 26k? And what’ll it be after the lawyers take their cut?

According to the article, the company, "requested lawful permanent residents at its Salt Lake City distribution center between March 2016 and March 2017 show specific Department of Homeland Security-issued documents. But they didn't enforce the same requirement on workers who were U.S. citizens."

How else can those who are non-U.S. citizens show they are lawful permanent residents?

Everyone that starts a job needs to fill out an I9 and a W4.

US citizens usually complete these the first day on the job.

“non US citizens” can't comply and Mrs. Fields has to ask up to three times before releasing them.

So they follow Homeland Security laws passed by Congress and run afoul of DOL rules?

Three crimes before breakfast indeed.

It does not matter if the green card is valid or not (It may be different with e verify now) you must accept them. Years ago I had very obvious green card and SSN card forgeries and when I refused them as ID I ended up in a world of trouble (They said I was not a document authority never mind the cards in question were in the wrong color with colored lettering.).
