I can’t figure out who is busy tanking the Market, but China could easily be a big player with motive to GET TRUMP!

I don’t know, but I have the same impression.

I really like this site. A lot. I have donated repeatedly, over the years. I am not now, because I am not there at the moment. But I just want to thank you for this wonderful website.

Thanks. This is the best website, anywhere.

For real.

Trump and his ally David Perdue are subsizing the import of containers of Chinese crap by subsidizing the Savannah-Brunswick port.

Why don't you think Americans can produce goods that the world wants that we can ship from Savannah?

Sounds like you've given up.

This makes sense. China has been raising tariffs on our goods, and not buying as much of our stuff as possible. After we get a deal it will even out. They have already agreed to buy agricultural goods, so this will start to go down.

U.S. Manufacturing Capacity Increases for 16th Month in a Row

So the U.S. trade deficit with China widens even as our manufacturing capacity has grown.

These trends are actually related. U.S. manufacturers use a lot of imported raw materials and assembled components. So almost every single new item manufactured here will actually generate MORE imports.

Stop agonizing over this, dude. Please come back from Vietnam and help Make America Great Again. :-)

He already has done something about it. You don’t reverse course overnight.

You keep repeatedly posting these deficit stories and proceed to criticize President Trump. What is your ultimate agenda?

What would you do different?

This is related to the tariff originally scheduled to rise to 25% (from 10%) on January 1. Since the average manufacturing profit is around 5% of sales, that tariff increase is a huge %, and well worth stockpiling goods in stateside warehouses before it takes effect.

I found it interesting that Georgia Ports just released a strategic plan last month that prioritized five countries for future growth as trading partners:

Germany
Great Britain
Ireland
Canada
Japan

Savannah is an interesting port because it doesn't serve a large local market like many other major U.S. ports (NY/NJ, Los Angeles, Houston, Seattle/Tacoma, etc.). This actually relates to my previous post about how growth in U.S. manufacturing has actually driven strong growth in cargo IMPORTS. Savannah is a preferred port destination for many of the foreign auto manufacturers that have built plants in the U.S. in recent years and import many of the parts and components to supply these U.S. plants.

The corollary is that the first month the 25% tariff takes effect might see Chinese exports to the US (iPhones, Black and Decker drills, HP laptops) at a decade-long low, given the warehoused goods already in place. If the tariff does take hold and continues for any length of time, the deficit will move to countries other than China, probably neighbors that have between 1/3 and 1/4 Chinese labor and land costs, which have gone up perhaps 10x in the last 30 years.

There was a guy, who also complained all the time.

About three years ago, I took notice of the guy. He seemed to really get what bothered me, about so much. About the GOP, which really was not supporting me anymore. They seemed to be sold out to foreigners.

About our border. It seemed we were just letting in everyone.

This guy got it. He really did. I realized he sounded like he was interested in running our country. I was so very relieved. FINALLY. A guy who really got it.

I supported the guy, from the very beginning. Strongly. I did not just support him, I also went to one of his campaign offices and bought a bunch of things. Bumper stickers. Pins. Shirts.

I never do that. Ever.

I was quite enthused by the guy. Very much so. When he got the nomination of the GOP, I felt like we had taken back our party. It was great.

Then he ran against the liberal candidate. Ran quite well in fact. And he won.

I had already come to Vietnam at the time. I in fact scheduled things so I could come back to vote for the guy. Then I came back here. I voted for the guy and actually did not find out he won the election, until I got back to Asia. Turned out I was one of 10,000 or 20,000 voters in Michigan who won the state for him.

I was quite enthused. There were two issues I thought were extremely important. Our border, and our trade situation with China.

Those two issues, are in fact why I voted for Trump, and were the main motivators for me. The main ones. I believe there are millions of other Americans like me, who also agreed, and also voted for Trump. We voted for Trump for many reasons, but primarily to stop the sell-out of our own country, by a bunch of globalist weenies.

Yes. Globalist weenies. I said it. That is who has been running America for the entire last generation.

Now we seemed to have a leader who would be pro-American for a change. Finally. A guy who got it.

Except now it has been two entire years, and I really have not seen concrete changes, to real results, in either subject.

There is no wall.

And our trade deficit with China has gotten WORSE.

Worse.

I am still glad Hillary wasn’t elected. But what in the world happened to Trump?

Why didn’t he do anything?

What is he waiting for?

Wasn’t a lot of this due to front-ordering by retailers to be the increased tariffs? If this gap still widens in a couple of months, then we need to take another look at it. I’m thinking it’s the “pig in the python” thingy.

Trump is not a magician. And he must deal with an uncooperative Congress. But if Hillary were president, she'd get heat on this. And so should Trump.

Here is a decent article: https://www.cato.org/publications/congressional-testimony/americas-misunderstood-trade-deficit

Another point is because China is not charging 40% tariffs on US made cars anymore, the amount spent by Chinese consumers for those cars is less. That appears as an increase in the trade deficit. But who thinks that’s a bad thing?

There are lies, damn lies, and statistics.
