Episcopal Church Hosts Pro-Abortion Rally Featuring “Christian” Pastors Promoting Abortions

A group of Ohio religious leaders criticized lawmakers’ efforts to pass protections for unborn babies Thursday during a pro-abortion protest at a church in downtown Columbus.

The event at Trinity Episcopal Church, coordinated by the Ohio Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, included Christian and Jewish leaders who oppose a bill to prohibit abortions after unborn babies have a detectable heartbeat, about six weeks of pregnancy.

The state House passed the bill in November, and the Senate is considering it this week. It is expected to pass the Republican-controlled legislature.

The Rev. Terry Williams, a United Church of Christ minister from Chillicothe who spoke at the protest, claimed to stand for women’s rights by opposing the pro-life bill.

“I will not stand here idly and let them strip away the rights of women and others in our state to make the right decisions for them and their families,” Williams said.

The Rev. Dr. Marian Stewart of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Columbus also spoke, saying, “This bill, which does not protect the health of the woman or rape victims, is not pro-life.”

The bill does protect life, though. An unborn baby’s heartbeat is detectable around six weeks of pregnancy, though new research suggests it may begin as early as 18 days after conception. In 2017, 20,893 unborn babies were aborted in Ohio, according to the state Department of Health. Most of those babies would be protected if the legislation goes into effect.

Other speakers included Fr. Dick Burnett, the rector at Trinity; Elaina Ramsey, executive director of the pro-abortion coalition; the National Council of Jewish Women – Columbus; Rev. Dr. Deborah Stevens, who appears to be the pastor of Broad Street United Methodist Church in Columbus; and Rabbi Jessica Shimberg, who appears to be from The Little Minyan Kehilla, a Jewish congregation in central Ohio. The radical pro-abortion group NARAL also participated.

The religious leaders’ opposition to the bill contradicts centuries of Judaeo-Christian teachings about the sanctity of life. Scriptures teach that all human lives are valuable because they are created in the image of God, and modern science has proven that unborn babies are living, unique human beings from the moment of conception.

Do they really think they are doing God's work? What is wrong with them? And what is their reason for doing this?

“This bill, which does not protect the health of the woman or rape victims, is not pro-life.”

I’d love to see them try to produce the scripture backing up that Orwellian thought process.

Abortion is a great evil and should never be supported or celebrated. I’m Episcopalian and I’m horrified by this.

This ties in with an article by Msgr. Charles Pope, posted earlier today by freeper Salvation. In it, he comments:

As for the mainline (largely white) Protestant churches, I would argue that a collapse of faith has depleted them, at least collectively. Many of them ceased preaching the “old time religion” a long time ago, having largely assimilated to a post-Christian world and acclimated to the sexual revolution. Gone are the moral demands of the gospel, which have been replaced by a social “gospel.” Gone is the drama of salvation. Jesus is less Lord and Savior and more a good man and ethical teacher.

A Shocking Loss of Faith: Reflecting on the Closing of So Many Churches

Granted the topics are different but related. One contributing factor, IMHO, was admitting women to the priesthood. That started the snowball rolling down hill to the point where they now have female bishops. In so doing, they gratified the feminists but loss those who held a more devout faith. This is the next progression.

Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.

If the coalition were religious, they would teach that the ‘choice’ must be either paternity or celibacy!

How dare they use the word ‘reproduction’ in the name of their group [rc for RC] when the child is violently murdered?

What exactly is produced? A lifeless infant?

Spot on.

The “progression” (actually the slippery slope) for Protestantism began in the 1930’s with the acceptance, later, the promotion, of artificial birth control first for the laity and later for clergy.

The next rung was reached in the 1960’s with the acceptance of divorce and, especially, remarriage after divorce first for the laity and later for clergy.

Ordination of women to Presbyteriate began in the 1970’s. At that time many denominational health insurance plans began covering elective abortion without restriction, irrespective of official denomination policy on pre-birth infanticide.

When I read posts like these I am profoundly thankful to be Orthodox.

The event at Trinity Episcopal Church

In August of 2001 the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) estabalished a "Full Communion Partnership" with The Episcopal Church through the adoption of "Called to Common Mission".

Therefore:

The Anglican/episcopal church went over to the Dark Side years ago ( with pcusa and several more former churches) Its very sad how much evil is taught/ preached in some “churches” like these, today.

Many times I simply cannot bear to hear their senseless ramblings anymore, so I just scare them away.

These types of situations occur daily! Freakazoids like these ‘pastors’ show us how Satan is tightening his grip on countless pitiful souls...

Scroll to the video if you dare! At the very bottom of the page you will find this defense of their church: “There is often some truth in humor”...

“The Unitarians believe in one God, not the trinity. The Universalists believe that salvation is universal.” The two merged in 1961.

We are known for welcoming LGBTQ individuals, families, and communities. We perform union ceremonies and marriages for couples regardless of gender.

There is often some truth in humor. On Prairie Home Companion, Garrison Keeler often pokes fun at UUs. Listen and laugh along!

Without a doubt, Msgr Pope is totally right about what happened to mainline white Protestant churches. Sadly, there are some laity and clergy (including not a few bishops and cardinals) in the Catholic Church who look to Episcopal Church USA, United Methodist, United Church of Christ, etc., and see not failure but a model to be emulated.
