But since that's been reported we have:
"But the White House has now backpedaled, acknowledging there was no deal in place to roll back automotive tariffs. Trump himself on Tuesday tweeted there "probably will" be a trade deal to follow the dinner meeting..."
Never count your Chinese promises until they're fulfilled (Confucius say).
I am an American, born and raised ... AND I LIVE HERE.
FYI ... "Alberta's Child" is a song by the Canadian country music legend Ian Tyson.
True words
It's almost as if he didn't realize how hard it would be.
Crazy, huh?
I would agree with that, but what would you take away from that WSJ article?
I reported it to you exactly as was stated. Trump said it, and the Chinese agent seemingly backed it up.
I don’t dispute your point either.
It isn’t over yet.
We’ll see how it turns out in the long run.
Given that the article included this:
"Chinese officials didnt immediately confirm or deny Mr. Trumps assertion, with a Foreign Ministry spokesman on Monday sidestepping questions on auto tariffs."
I'd be very skeptical.
Between the subtleties of translation, cultural differences and the Chinese propensity to deceive I'd wait to claim victory until the tariffs were actually reduced.
Ok thanks.
I am living in Ho Chi Minh City.
I was one of Trump’s earliest supporters on FR, since several weeks before, he formally announced his candidacy. I was a strong supporter. Even stopped in to a Trump campaign office and bought, a bunch of things prior to the election.
I helped Trump win in Michigan. My home.
But I am living here now. Stopped here for a visit two years ago and was pleasantly surprised. Don’t know what I expected exactly, but this is much different.
Now I know the history. I was alive during the Vietnam war, though too young to be drafted. I am also a bit familiar with China. The same system of government. But I don’t feel Vietnam is a threat to America. Not at all. In the past two YEARS I have met exactly TWO people who I felt remotely threatened by here.
Two! Living in a large city.
But China is very, very big. And very ambitious. And they have four or five TIMES America’s population.
It is completely beyond my understanding why in the world, we are building up China.
Of all the countries in the entire world.
Thanks. Rant off.
:)
It was going to get worse before it got better.
The good economy has a demand for more supplies. It stands to reason the trade deficit might go up,for a while.
So how much did it go up with obozo in charge yearly?
companies have been massively buying cheap cut from china in advance of tariffs.
Trump is perfectly fine on this issue. People in America are buying more stuff from China. We can’t help it. We have always bought more stuff. Especially if the economy is good here. Trump promised jobs. We have more jobs than we can fill. There are job openings in every state, at every skill level. And if Americans want to use their pay to buy Chinese stuff, thats ok. At least they have lots of money to do that. And China does not have that much money in the hands of the workers. Thats their problem. And if they fix it, we still can’t find anyone to fill the jobs that Trump has already made.
In the past, half or more of our deficit was related to oil imports.
But our oil situation has completely changed.
In 2018, there have been two months when our energy exports almost equaled our energy imports.
That is happening because we are exporting more and more bio-fuels like ethanol, more natural gas, and more natural gas liquids like propane, plus, America has the most efficient refineries in the world.
Domestically, we are also pumping about 3 million barrels per day more oil from tight shale formations, which means we are importing much less oil.
The fact that our total trade deficit is in record territory at the same time our energy trade deficit has dramatically improved is very disturbing.
You don’t seem to understand economics. The trade deficits is caused by our country BUYING more goods from China then we Sell to them.
We have the best economy in 20 yrs due to Trump’s policies and since our economy is 2/3 driven by consumer spending the result is we are SPENDING MORE and what we are buying is made in China.
Deficits (trade) always increase when our economy is strong and it it is no different this time. This was not the case when we made things in this country and consumers bought stuff WE made.
One of the reasons so many who can effect changes opt not to is because they know that making things better will result in short term inconveniences and cost them votes...so they opt to help the cancer spread instead of excising it out...and they have "Conservative" help because so many who claim to be for what's right decide maybe they only want the parts that will have a net sum zero effect on them for the foreseeable future.
President Trump can’t do this on his own. We have to buy the stuff made here when possible.
I’d take the article as written, the Chinese agent saying they are working on moving the tariffs to zero.
You can choose and select all you want, but denial isn’t exactly accurate either.
