President Donald Trump is losing his war on the U.S. trade deficit and the evidence is growing that his own tariffs are at least part of the reason why.
The U.S.'s monthly deficit in goods and services with the world reached its highest level in a decade in October while the deficit with China hit a record, according to data on Thursday.

Everything Trump has done, has been setting up the situation between China and America, go forward.
But until now, everything he has done, has actually made our trade deficit with China WORSE.
Not better. Worse.

IT is the booming economy....all the crap we buy is made in China or Asia
America’s economy is booming. China’s crashing.Their currency eroding. They just cried uncle.
Message. Make the bad Orange man stop.
Americans are making more money and they are spending that money. We don’t make the stuff that people are buying. It takes time to change that. Not Trump’s fault.
“IT is the booming economy....all the crap we buy is made in China or Asia”
Exactly. Reducing the trade deficit will become increasingly difficult as our economy grows. Consumer spending is rapidly outpacing US ability to grow and develop new industries.
for later
China just lowered it’s import fees on our vehicles by 40%.
NewsMax has been freebasing political crack for a long time.
We just signed a deal with Mexico which benefits us.
The same with Canada...
How can NewsMax imply that nothing is happening on this front?
How can anyone buy into that nonsense?
Europe is talking about lower all tariffs to zero.
Folks, Trump’s own tariffs are beginning to pay off. We’re getting movement we wouldn’t have gotten under any other presidential candidate in 2016.
The pop up in the deficit is due to companies stocking up on cheap Chinese junk before the tariffs went into effect. Nothing to worry about.
Yeah, and then China cut its 40% tariffs on cars imported from the US on Dec. 1.
Get tired of all the hand wringing wimps who expect everything to happen right away.
Ya want Trump to fix 40 years of inept corrupt leadership in 1.8 years? Really?
Ya sound like one of the CNN propagandist.
“But until now, everything he has done, has actually made our trade deficit with China WORSE”
Tariffs have been put into effect in stages. So Chinese exporters cram their goods onto ships to try to beat the tariffs. For example, tariffs were scheduled to increase from 10% to 25% in January (postponed because of talks). Therefore, Chinese companies have front loaded exports to beat that increase. Once the higher tariffs kick in, then exports will fall.
Same pattern could happen with the remaining $267 billion of Chinese goods not yet subject to tariffs. Once a tariff schedule is announced, front loading will occur and then drop off.
The big ship does not turn around on a dime.
Yep, China’s selling a lot more to us now!
One reason is the lower value of the Yuan making everything they sell cheaper- despite the tariffs. Chinese goods are insanely cheap- look at the TV prices now, unreal!
The value of the Yuan went up 10% overnight after the G20- I think Trump has a handle on this.
Yet he has done more to repair this than the last 3 Presidents combined.
except it would be much more without his actions — look at a graph!
Also, this does not count the billions we are currently getting in Tariffs, that the Chinese are “eating” because they have no pricing power.
Did the price of made in China crap go up? Nope. They have essentially slave labor.
No this is utter nonsense. Newsmax and Ruddy are Clinton apologists and Never Trumpers
Yes I’ve read companies in China are rushing inventory out the door in order to make sales before tariffs go higher. That can’t go on forever.
It is probably the Christmas lights. Will be better in January.
Trump was elected to throw Bolshies in jail. Alas, he is failing miserably.
