Maybe the best response would have been to say nothing.
But then the story would be continually repeated and assumed to be totally true.
Tillerson knows President Trump is under investigation and that the Democrats and the media will do and say anything to destroy him.
Tillerson knows better than to make statements about Trump proposing illegal activity to the media.
Unless Tillerson is deliberately trying to sabotage the president.
Either way, I wish Trump would stop lowering himself to his critics level. Instead of replying like a teenager, he should focus on job growth stats, building the wall, and going after the deep state traitors in our midst.

When I heard what he said, especially in insinuation that the POTUS wanted to do something “Illegal” (whatever that means) that same thought crossed my mind.
Trying to make Trump the new Nixon I guess.
The guy could be a Registered DemocRat for all we know.
That's not good enough. People need to know they're going to be humiliated if they attack Trump.
I think President Trump was trying to unify the Republicans early in his administration.
He wanted the party to work together.
Trump hired Reince Prebus and other establishment Republicans.
He let Ryan and McConnell take the lead on repealing Obama care and other issues.
