Trump Unleashes on ‘Dumb as a Rock’ Tillerson: He ‘Didn’t Have the Mental Capacity’
msn ^ | 12/7/2018 | Josh Feldman

President Donald Trump is clearly not happy with comments from his former Secretary of State.

Rex Tillersongot candid today not just about his time at State, but about the President and how “undisciplined” he is. He also claimed that he had to explain to Trump that various things he proposed were illegal.

Trump clearly heard about the comments, and he fired back with some choice words for the man who once reportedly called him a “moron”:

“Mike Pompeo is doing a great job, I am very proud of him,” Trump tweeted Friday afternoon. “His predecessor, Rex Tillerson, didn’t have the mental capacity needed. He was dumb as a rock and I couldn’t get rid of him fast enough. He was lazy as hell. Now it is a whole new ballgame, great spirit at State!”

I expect that Trump is a little frustrated with the slimy backstabbing environment in DC, nothing is worse then being betrayed by someone you trusted. I’m sure it is hard to find good people in DC. But I must admit, I am a little disappointment Trump has not done better with his appointments. That was one of the reasons I supported him, I believed he hired only the best people. Not that I don’t support him now, I still do. But damn, are there not better candidates out there?

Tillerson was recommended to Trump by Gates, another Bushie. He proved to be low energy and a captive of the bureaucracy.

> Trump responds. <

And poorly, I think. Tillerson might well be “lazy”, and “dumb as a rock”. But Trump is the guy who hired him in the first place. And Trump was not aware of these serious flaws?

A better Trump response - regardless of what Tillerson said - would have something along the lines of “The guy underperformed, hugely. So I had to let him go.”

Trump doesn’t trash people unless they provoke him into it. I don’t recall Trump dishing on Tillerson prior to this. Like he didn’t backdoor a bunch of criticism to trash Tillerson weasel-style after replacing him. But now Tillerson has crossed a line and Trump fires back with both barrels in full public view.

Maybe the President should have listened to all those brilliant, patriotic Republicans in the Senate when they refused to approve Tillerson’s appoiintment.......oh...nevermind.

Trump is a total outsider. He has to depend on the Reps to make recommendations as far as staffing is concerned. There are about 4,000 jobs in the Plum Book. Tillerson was recommended by Bob Gates.

I give Trump credit for getting rid of the dead wood. Lincoln did something similar with his generals. Keep changing until you get the right one.

“The point is, he - TRUMP - is the person hiring all of these “dumb as a rock” people to Cabinet positions. What does it say about his judgement? THAT, is the point.”

It has been estimated that over 95% of the federal government is trying to destroy President Trump.

Most of the people with recent foreign policy experience are corrupt and/or would refuse to work for Trump.

President Trump was new to government in 2016 when Tillerson was chosen. People must have recommended him. Tillerson had many connections.

When he got into the job Trump realized he was not up to it. Trump replaced him, complimented him on his performance and allowed him to leave with dignity.

It is mazing that Trump has been able to accomplish as much as he has given the hostile environment that he is forced to operate in.

It is amazing that he is able to hire any good candidates given the abuse they are forced to endure.

That, is the point.

Noticed that most of the catty schoolgirl gossip (called “leaks”) from the White House stopped after Tillerson and Priebus were canned.

Yes. I wish I didn’t still like that album, because of the singer eventually going radical Muslim, but I still enjoy many of those songs. I saw him at a concert in Detroit around 1973. The Masonic Theater on Woodward Blvd. Lines for the tickets stretched a full two blocks.
I think The Masonic was torn down years ago.

Anyone who is anybodywho bashes Trump is a darling of the media.

When Tillerson took the job I doubted he would last. He is a accustomed to the Exxon process. Exxon is analytical in everything. It is like the Borg. It assembles a whole cast of like minded A players throws them into the crucible armed against each other and all for Exxon and sees who will come out on top. Or should I say stays on top since the top is selected early on. There are many brilliant ex-Exxonners who leave the Borg and are extremely successful. They leave because there are only a few slots at the top and if they think they deserve one of them and don’t get it they move on.

Exxon is a corpocracy. Trump operates an oligarchy type business. His business is his creation and vision alone. An Exxon CEO is cultured to execute the Exxon vision based on Exxon analytics not his own.

Trump replaces analytics with fleetness of foot and his own instincts but tempers that with some outcry telling him he may not be right and he may listen to that. I imagine Trump drove Tillerson absolutely nuts. Trump would be a very hard taskmaster to work for.

Everyone Trump hired came highly recommended and held top government or business leader positions. Trump’s fault his didn’t understand the scope of the government or large corporation’s incompetence.

Tillerson started as a production engineer and worked his way up to become chairman and chief executive officer of Exxon Mobile (the sixth largest revenue company in the nation). He held the position for eleven years.

On paper without knowing the person, this seems like a great hire. The man has a hell of a resume. Trump had to fill hundreds of positions. He had to fill these positions quickly based on resume and recommendations under duress by the media, Democrats, and never Trumpers.

The president is not the Human Resource manager, he has to depend on people to advise him on his hires. He had no government experience, he did a hell of a job considering the forces align against him and his experience. Sure there are plenty (should be expected), but most are blown completely out or proportion by the news media.

We are not at war (state’s job), best economy in decades, terrorism is on the decline, everyone that wants to work has a job, and doing a thousand things right. Forgive him the few he gets wrong.

Trump has made himself look petty... again. I really wish he would not do that. If he didn’t do this he would be a really great man. He could defend himself without being so much like a 12 year-old.

Tillerson already took things down a notch and could have been snubbed without taking it down another one.

Happens everywhere, every day.

You hire someone who seems to be intelligent and motivated, but later, you discover that the impression you had, however acquired, was incorrect.

I see it happen frequently.

Fortunately, those who are actually intelligent, motivated and useful are kept onboard.

You give people a chance to shine and some will, some won't.

My take on Tillerson and my misgiving of him is that he could not step DOWN to the job of SoS. It was too much like work compared to the job he had before he retired. A lot of people that want to work after retirement find out otherwise when they go back to work. I also expect Tillerson found the government restrictive not that he was doing anything illegal at Exxon just that he could move freely with the blessing of the board.
