U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz with three other senators introduced a bill Wednesday that is aimed at fully funding a wall along the US-Mexico border... The WALL Act would fully fund the border wall by closing existing loopholes that provide illegal immigrants with federal benefits and tax credits, without affecting the benefits and tax credits used by Americans.

Don’t spending bills have to originate in the house?
Don’t spending bills have to originate in the house?
Bingo!
Deem it so Scotty!
Is Cruz in the house? How IS THAT on him?
Yep. I saw the charts the other day. Fraud, Waste & MASSIVE Abuse, for sure!
closing existing loopholes that provide illegal immigrants with
federal benefits and tax credits

Interesting if it can be passed in both Houses.
It won’t increase tax moneys but use money going to illegals.
If they can’t get funds from the gov’t they will have to find
work, scrounge from other sources or leave. No more handouts.
Might get through the lame duck House, but totally agree that the Dems will not support it in the incoming House.
It will NEVER get passed the House.
***********
Maybe so, but if it doesn’t pass the House
then the voters have the option to send the
NAYS packing at the next election. What’s
good about this approach is it doesn’t raise
federal taxes as it only uses money already
going to the illegals.
No, it doesn't make any difference. Whether it raises or lowers spending, or raises or lowers taxes, it is an appropriations bill and must originate in the House.
“All spending bills must originate in the House. Obamacare was started in the Senate by using an appropriations bill already passed in the house, and amended it by striking every single word out of the bill, including the title, and amending it with the Obamacare bill language.”
Wow.
McConnell was there then. He learned the hard way how legislation can be rammed through.
I'm sure Ryan is all over it.
...reconciliation over the Christmas holiday - like Obamacare.
That would be just as good as Mexico paying for the wall. In fact, even better in the long run.
Unfortunately, such a bill will not pass in this Congress, nor the next. The wall was effectively defeated in the midterm election.
It was done by Dingy Harry Reid.
If you're interested in history, here's a read:
It is WaPo, and is explaining how Mitch McConnell was "undoing" Obamacare, but the relevant part is:
"But here is where it gets complicated and more opaque. Working secretly in his office, much like Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) merged the two committee bills and unveiled his own version of a health-care bill on Nov. 18 that was scored by the Congressional Budget Office."In a bit of legislative maneuvering, Reid offered his text as an amendment to a completely different House bill the Service Members Home Ownership Tax Act of 2009. Thats because this bill had been sitting on the Senate Calendar of Business, avoiding the need for Reid to obtain unanimous consent to bring it up. This bill was also already obsolete the issue had been taken care of in another bill and so it was an ideal vehicle to start debate on the Senate floor. Reid inserted the text into the shell of the old bill."

The Wall was “effectively defeated” because the GOP and their coporate donors do not want one. It was reported shortly after POTUS inagurated that the GOP had no interest in funding The Wall and here we are.
Thats right, no chance it gets through the House.
The next chance to get it through this session will be when Congress has to extend or replace the continuing appropriation before Dec 21.
Any “money” bill must originate in the “peoples house”.
Where the F##k have they been for the last 2 years when we had the house?
Once again, when there’s NO CHANCE this becomes law suddenly Republicans are talking the talk.
Wall of Dreams — if we build it, they won’t come.
