Can Beto O’Rourke make the leap?December
Washington Post ^ | December 5, 2018 | Jennifer Rubin

Posted on 12/06/2018 6:39:20 AM PST by C19fan

The Post reports:

Beto O’Rourke, weighing whether to mount a 2020 presidential bid, met recently with Barack Obama at his post-presidency offices in Washington.

The meeting, which was held on Nov. 16 at the former president’s offices in Foggy Bottom, came as former Obama aides have encouraged the Democratic House member to run, seeing him as capable of the same kind of inspirational campaign that caught fire in the 2008 presidential election.

O’Rourke, as Obama did, certainly has the rhetorical skills and charisma to make Democrats swoon. He has some of the same advantages Obama enjoyed, and a few that Obama lacked.

First, O’Rourke comes from red Texas not blue Illinois. As he showed in his hard-fought Senate race against Ted Cruz, he can speak both to the left and to disaffected Republicans. He is clearly progressive, but can talk in a way that does not frighten voters who are more moderate. He can tout his legislative record in promoting health care for veterans — but also vigorously oppose President Trump’s family-separation policy. He supports immigration reform but has avoided silly positions such as abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He is at ease talking about values — as he did when he defended the rights of NFL players to protest (“I can think of nothing more American than to peacefully stand up, or take a knee, for your rights, anytime, anywhere, in any place”). While he is a strong advocate of restrictions on semiautomatic weapons, he can also say with conviction “we have this great proud honorable heritage and proud tradition of gun ownership in Texas.”

If some orange flop-haired empty headed skirt chai gin Boris Johnson look-alike clan get elected President, anyone can get elected. [Note to humorless idiots - this is sarcasms].

These folks completely overlook Trump’s multifarious talents including an eagle eye for winning strategies, and for a toughness that almost no one else in politics has. The man has the hide of a rhinoceros. And for those who are ignorant, rhinos charge when provoked until the perp is ground into dust under their hooves.

No.

He is an Irish white guy. Cruz just touched on the edge. In a POTUS election independent organizations will emphasize that and make him out as worse than fauxahauntas and dolezal.

Add to that his personal Chappaquiddick where he was in a DUI and left the scene and he is done.

And, of course, he is a loser. Even the small boy obozo won his congressional selection.

This clown does not speak to “disaffected Republicans”. Rubin is a joke, a nonthinking, buffoon.

You mean like Bill Clinton and Bayrack Hussein Obama? Yeah. As long as we have VOTER FRAUD, BALLOT TAMPERING & HARVESTING going on, unchecked, that is entirely possible.

Part of the solution is to correct people on his name each and every time they try to use the stupid nickname. Demand that they also refer to you by your nickname (”your Lordship” works for me) and make fun of them if they don’t comply.

Let any and everyone trying to use the cultural appropriation name endure relentless jeering.

If they whine that you aren’t being serious, point out that an adult trying to go around using a nickname undebatably isn’t serious either so that set the tone.

So, no platform at all, just “Beto!”. Look for Beto version of Barry’s Hope poster any day now. This is a popularity contest for people who watch E! TV. Nothing to do with issues.

Hard to imagine Rubin being even one millimeter right of center, and really more like a basic coastal Dem, albeit one who might have met a Republican or two.

When it comes to “Beto” I think the Dems would be smart to choose him, drunk driving record and all. Having NO legislative track record or actual policy positions has become an essential part of US electoral politics. You need the public to project their hopes onto you, not carefully consider your positions and see if they line up with theirs.

For most voters it’s about FEEEEEEEEELINGS, nothing more than feelings, and facts just confuse the narrative.

Obama won his Senate seat because his opponent was forced to drop out of the race (after embarrassing details from his sealed divorce records were leaked to the media). O'Rourke failed to learn how to do that.

Trump is a master at coming up with nicknames for his opponents.

"Beto" resembles "beta."

Maybe the 2020 election will pit an Alpha Male (Trump) against a Beta Male (Beto).

But I'm sure Trump will come up with something better.

Utter BS. One look at this little gun grabbing puke and it is over. End of conversation. He comes from a long line of criminal POLs. His father in law is hugely wealthy. He got 38 million in Foreign (state) Contributions. TV stations LOVE to take that kind of MONEY. They will project any lie.

same kind of inspirational campaign that caught fire in the 2008 presidential election.

Never happen, Beto is too white.
