Thanks for the laughs!
Having ketchup on my mac and cheese as I type.
Malt Vinegar is great on fried chicken too, seriously.
Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit
Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
Philosophy is wondering whether it means that ketchup is a smoothie.
Sacrilege!
my Japanese wife uses more ketchup than I do. When I use it its more likely to be as an additive to add a little bit smoother tomato flavor when making a pasta sauce, or even in a chilli.
But I dont like it on burgers anymore.
New to me, I usually got PB&J in a brown paper sack, Mom made great fried bologna sandwiches though..
Maybe it’s the quality of meat I tend to buy but I prefer my burgers with virtually no condiments at all. In the summer, I make 1/2 pound patties out of grass fed beef and cook them medium rare before putting them on a slightly buttered and toasted brioche bun. Other than maybe a thick slab of swiss and/or bacon, I eat them just that way. So good.
They serve that with fries at the beach eateries here in Maryland. It’s a great accompaniment.
Heinz does vote use corn syrup
They put gravy on their fries. I think it's called "poontang."
As kid I would eat nothing but Heinz. Not long ago, I needed ketchup and all that was available was Hunt's.
Now either they have spent years making theirs taste more like Heinz or my taste buds have changed. It was as good or better.
Oddly, I had a bagel and a smear of green onion chive cream cheese with Miso soup for breakfast LOL
Go figure LOL
Thank you for that. I’m very low carb now since I learned I am pre-diabetic.
On keto for six months and now my blood work is normal.
They used to make Brook’s Ketchup in southern Illinois near St Louis...it was as good if not better than Heinz, had a spicier zip to it...tomatoes grown locally were very flavorful and of all kinds...no need for tough bland ones when grown so close. I don’t know why they were bought out but it may be farm subsidies favoring corn and soybeans mad it harder and harder to get local farmers to grow tomatoes.
It’s still made, but somewhere else, harder to find, and probably not with as good a mix of tomatoes. It’d be fun to se if it’s still as good.
Great Value - yes
Heinz - no way, no how am I funding Kerry
Poutian
If you just buy plain ‘Heinz Ketchup’, it has corn syrup.
There is a Heinz ketchup that doesn’t use corn syrup - I think it’s called ‘Simply Heinz’, which has no corn syrup, but does have sugar.
They also make a ‘no sugar added’ one, sweetened only with the tomatoes.
We can find the ‘Simply Heinz’ locally, but haven’t seen the no-sugar-added one.
Most lunchroom food back then was made from scratch. Ooooh, no one could concentrate in class with the smell of fresh homemade yeast rolls wafting down the hall. And their big homemade peanutbutter cookies (no one died!).
