The Boston Red Sox have accepted an invitation to the White House to celebrate their World Series championship. “We’ve accepted and we’re going to see if there’s a date that works,” team President Sam Kennedy said Monday night before the premiere of the ballclub’s 2018 highlight video.

Once a standard, non-partisan perk of winning it all, the traditional champions’ visit to Washington has become more politicized. Some teams have declined invitations from President Donald Trump; in other cases, individual players stayed home.

Sheeeeah...there is something wrong with folks who can’t set aside their ideology for a few hours. The other day I took a 4 hour flight and as luck would have it I ended seated beside a very well known far left writer, activist and political commentator. We were engeged in a nonstop discussion that started at the gate and didnt stop until we were at baggage....must have touched on a hundred subjects and of course didnt agree on one. At the baggage carousel she thanked me for a rollicking good debate....and I thanked her for a thought provoking civil discussion that gave me a lot of insight into why she thought her ideology made sense to her.

I remember that - Tim Thomas, goaltender for the Bruins.

A lot of us here cheered when he declined the WH visit.

Either way, I don't think it's the right thing to do. Had I been invited to the WH when Obama was in office, I would have gone and would have been civil about it. Just like I was when I met the mayor of Boston at a fundraiser many years ago (Tom Menino). The guy was a left-wing nut but I shook his hand and exchanged pleasantries just the same.

I do my talking in the voting booth.

Why is being “respectful” such a major task!? I’d like Cora to come with one legitimate issue where Trump hasn’t earned the respect and gratitude of every American! One! Uno!
