A former NBA player has filed a lawsuit against United Airlines for $10 million, accusing a flight attendant of race-baiting.
According to the lawsuit filed in New York Eastern District Court, the incident unfolded on July 13 on United Airlines Flight 1537 from Las Vegas to Newark Airport in New Jersey.
Murdock, who is black, asked a flight attendant whether he could move to an empty emergency exit row behind him to sit alongside his son, who was seated in a different row.
According to court documents, the stewardess, a white woman, told Murdock the seats he was looking to move to cost a premium price, although she did not specify how much.

If they are not sold at the slightly higher price, the emergency exit seats are a bit roomier and are for Premium Plus customers, who fly with United over a certain number of times.
Typically the stewardess will ask the customer seated there, “If I’m incapacitated in an emergency, are you willing to open this door..?”
Terrible reporting. I finished this piece and had more questions than answers. Journalism just isn’t what it used to be.
The FA was exactly right... emergency rows cost extra, and Murdock should’ve known that prior to the flight.
Imagine the chaos if everyone started switching seats after boarding. Im with the airlines. Once the doors close no switching seats. FLying today is awful enough no need to add to the mess. People want their luggage directly over their seat so they will spend time rearranging other peoples luggage. Touching other peoples stuff is a no no. Unless you are looking for a lawsuit.
I thought it was me. Could not piece together what happened.
What isnt racist these days?
Completely ridiculous, both the lawsuit and the garbage reporting.
Yes, but according to the story, a women was allowed to move to that row later in the flight. If so, and she was white, doesn’t look good for the attendant.
I fly United every month, and they have gotten extremely strict about moving to economy plus or exit row seats if you didn’t pay for them. I have been on several flights where it was me and one or two others in economy plus and coach was completely full.
But if the seats were empty and they werent sold, assigned or given to someone else there should not have been an issue. Also if another gentlemen offered to exchange seats there shouldnt have been an issue either UNLESS the doors were about to close and the shuffling would have delayed the flight. I have seen that happen numerous times where the FA was asked if a person could move to an empty row if j one was seated there.
As someone else said the article left a lot of info out. In my opinion just from what was written the FA was wrong.
Is Eric Murdock related to Roger the first-officer co-captain ?
What do you mean by rearranging? So if some guy manages to shove his steamer trunk into the middle of the overhead, it’s not permitted to slide it over a few inches to fit my appropriately sized duffel bag?
Who filed this ridiculous lawsuit? Jackie Chiles?
Per NewsSqueak...
“According to court filings, the flight attendant reportedly asked Murdock whether he was going to boycott drinks when she approached him.
The 50-year-old did not respond to the obvious race baiting, according to the lawsuit.”
Has NOTHING to do with race.
It’s overtly racist to expect black entertainers (active or retired) to abide by the standard laws, rules and conventions that apply to the general population.

Gotta say...I side with Murdock but it has nothing to do with race. The flight attendant is simply an @$$hole and should be fired for causing such a scene with a customer.
What kind of fish you catch with race bait?
"To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize"
The way I understand the situation, a white female FA gave the seat to a white woman instead of a black man. At no point did she interject race. Maybe she is a Hillary Clinton supporting man hater (yes, I am reaching but merely pointing out something that is overlooked). Of course, that wouldn’t hold up in court as well as being a supposed racist. Society is weird especially in the victimization world.
