Democratic Socialist darling Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hasn't even been sworn into office yet and she's already shaking things up in Washington, D.C. Scratch that. She hasn't even been sworn in as a Congresswoman yet and she's already making demands of her fellow legislators...before meeting and working with them.
First, she complained that she couldn't find adequate housing that she could afford. Then, she complained about health insurance as a means of advocating for Medicare For All. And who could forget her crazy comparisons between the Central American caravan and the Holocaust? Or that she didn't know what the three branches of government are?
Now, she's telling her colleagues that they need to pay staffers a living wage:
This week I went to dive spot in DC for some late night food. I chatted up the staff.
SEVERAL bartenders, managers, & servers *currently worked in Senate + House offices.*
This is a disgrace. Congress of ALL places should raise MRAs so we can pay staff an actual DC living wage. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@Ocasio2018) December 3, 2018
It is unjust for Congress to budget a living wage for ourselves, yet rely on unpaid interns & underpaid overworked staff just bc Republicans want to make a statement about fiscal responsibility.
If thats the case, they can cut down on staff to pay them well. Or raise the MRA. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@Ocasio2018) December 3, 2018
Here's the thing about internships:
Not all of them pay...
My last semester of college, I interned for the American Conservative Union and guess what? I wasn't paid monetarily. I was paid with experience. It was a trade off. I was given opportunities that seriously helped my career. Building contacts and relationships with other people was what I was paid with. That also meant that I had to live off of savings and a few hundred dollars that my parents sent me each money. It was one of the best decisions I ever made for myself. If nothing else, I learned what it was like to work and live on Capitol Hill.
...Unless you're on the Hill.
When I interned at the ACU, I lived in an all girls boarding house. Most of the girls who lived there were in D.C. for a short time. Most were interns, some were staff assistants (the lowest staffers). I was one of the only unpaid interns. Pretty much every intern who worked on Capitol Hill or for a government agency was paid.
People (generally) go into politics for the right reasons.
Most people who work in politics start out as activists who want to make a difference. They somehow turn their activism into a paying job. And anyone who volunteers or works in politics knows one thing: you don't do it for the money. You do it because you care about the future of the nation.
A "living wage" will vary person-to-person.
Where we come from, how we budget our money and what we deem as "necessities" all play a role in what we think we need to earn from a job. This has to do with how we're raised and really, our views on the role government should pay.
The two question I have for Ocasio-Cortez: if you're so concerned about paying staff a living wage, why not shrink your staff size and pay each one of them more? And how much will you be paying your interns?

Alexandria Occasional Kotex, I like it!
Happened where I worked. Brought in a new plant manager. I was out within a week (cleaned out all managers over 40 years old). Company was immediately headed into bankruptcy (took 2 years). I spent 20 years there, and had realized the downward spiral and was prepared to leave.
There isn't a bartender in Washington DC who wouldn't be absolutely thrilled to have AOC chatting them up at work. There'd be pics all over Instagram.
Its going to be a lot of fun to see to see the same Democrats who tried to stuff a sock down her throat show up to work the next morning to an unhinged mob of angry activists screaming in bullhorns and pounding on the walls.
Nancy is going to face what Boehner faced with the Tea Party, but much worse. Nancy is going to have SJW/Fascist and Communists to her left with bullhorns and not a critical thinking skill among them.
I had a bad fall last August, injured shoulder, hip and spine. ORTHO was only allowed by MEDICARE to X Ray 1 part. Had to give me a CORTISONE shot, despite the fact I react bad to them before he could send me to Physio for a month before he could do a MRI to see if the ROTAOR CUFF was TORN. FLUNKED PHYSIO. NOW NOTHING HE CAN DO. Then he proceeds to say MEDICARE IS THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL for healthcare. He is NOW FORCED to do FULL KNEE replacements when A PARTIAL is called for, has NO REHAB fees, RECOVERY is faster, Hubby has 2 Partials both doing great, was driving in 3 days. What little Rehab he had was done AT HOME. NO PAIN MEDS they are practically ILLEGAL while STREET JUNKIES hit the Jackpot with $8.5 BILLION.
BUT I CAN’t HAVE A STEM CELL TREATMENT to try and repair the damage FDA DRUGS CAUSED in my body...OSTEOPOROSIS, yep can’t take those drugs as they will damage other areas of my body, already had 2 ER trips over them.
1.) In 5 years these volunteers would be making over a $100 grand a year, because the Unions would step in as both the "D"s and the "R'"s of the Deep State fully support the them to Unionize.
2.) In 10 years the Unions would also be sure to get their staff full benefits.
3.) In 15 years they would be making almost as much as the Senators and House members they work under make.
4.) In 20 tears, if the country exists still, these rich brats would be given full retirement benefits after 5 years of service to their congress critters.
5.) Plus, The Union bosses would be giving most of the Union dues they collect to the Democrats to ensure their re-elections.
Lots of cans now have pull tops.
No kidding.
I guess it's for the velcro-shoes crowd ...
I’ve noticed. Never thought it was because people didn’t have a can opener. In fact, I dislike them. They are difficult if you have arthritis.
Let the bitty take a pay cut and increase her staff’s pay from that. Until then, SHUT UP!
