When someone says squirrels you'd think of those small size rodent-like creatures with their bushy tails. Jumping and running across from trees to trees, squirrels make for cute creatures hunting for their nuts more often. But residents in North Carolina can spot some oddity in and around Robeson County. Going by the recent pictures posted by state wildlife officials there are 2-foot tall squirrels in the area. Baby Squirrel Taken into Police Custody After Chasing a Man in Germany.

I admit, good picture.
But whoever got the picture could easily have taken a picture of the same scene with something in it for scale. Anything from a dollar bill to a cartridge would do.

I’ve seen them in South Carolina and they are pretty good sized. There are several pics on the internet, one with a shotgun for reference.

The pic came from a wildlife cam. Even if it hadn’t that would be one cooperative giant squirrel, that would just stand there while you put something next to it for scale.

Yep, any fisherman will tell you lf you hold a fish close to the camera when tthe picture is being taken it can look WAY bigger than actual. I usually use a beer can for scale in my pics. :)

Just looks like a photo of a fox squirrel.
They are all much larger than a cat squirrel.

We have fox squirrels and they are beautiful (rats) with their varying color and fur patterns. The can get pretty big. They are rare now because of their territory needs, completion from gray squirrels and hunting. The pine snake that shares the same territory are also rarely seen but can grow to eight feet.

Or the squirrel scene in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

Even if it hadn’t that would be one cooperative giant squirrel, that would just stand there while you put something next to it for scale. You don't need to put it next to the squirrel. Just in the same place the squirrel was.
Easy to do. The scene shows the details the same, then you can compare the object to the squirrel in the two pictures to scale it.
Particularly easy in a game camera, where the location of the camera is fixed.

Those pine needles should be all you need for scale.

Yes not unusual at all and some surprising colors. Yes they can be as big as a full grown cat.
