We were a tad premature with our recent post announcing the ATF’s final determination that bump fire stocks will now be considered and regulated the same way as machine guns. But we apparently weren’t off by much. According to the unimpeachable news source that is CNN . . .
The Trump administration plans to announce the long-anticipated federal rule officially banning bump stocks in the coming days, according to US officials familiar with the matter.
Given the President’s virtual order to the ATF directing the agency to reexamine their determination that bump fire stocks are perfectly legal firearm accessories under current law, it wasn’t a matter of if, only a question of when.
Under the new rule, bump stock owners would be required to destroy or surrender the devices to authorities. Members of the public will be given 90 days to turn in or otherwise discard their bump stocks, according to a source familiar with the final rule.
“Bump stocks turn semiautomatic guns into illegal machine guns. This final rule sends a clear message: Illegal guns have no place in a law-and-order society, and we will continue to vigorously enforce the law to keep these illegal weapons off the street,” a senior Justice Department official told CNN Wednesday.

As Luis Valdes wrote here earlier, this sets a terrible precedent that is almost sure to could be abused by future, less gun-friendly administrations to outlaw more than just range toys.

This is, apparently, going to happen. I think it’s a really stupid move on Trump’s part. One of the few bad decisions that he’s made. I believe he is making it out of ignorance, but the results are the same. To all those speculating that people won’t turn them in, you’re probably right. And that is to democrat supporters of the rule, the purpose. Another example of:

Just wait for the gun control legislation next year.
Marksman don’t need spray and pray. Most bullets go wild on fully automatic. A steady semi auto is better, it saves more ammo. Spraying is a toy for Yahoos. Need spray, get a SMG and pay the tax. It doesn’t really matter, they can’t stop the flow of illegals and drugs, where are they going to get the people to go and get the stocks? The Snowflakes? LOL, They better give them dark brown pants if the expect them to take them away.

They’ll also have to confiscate all metallurgical and woodworking tools that might be used to make a bump stock. Good luck with that.

If people can do the same thing with a rubber band wouldn’t that move those who have a hissy fit over it under the “Stupid Column”? Especially since rubber bands are way cheaper - literally than “a dime a dozen”?

I was decried on this forum as being a scaremonger over this, the red flag laws, and the Vermont magazine ban.
So, are we prepared to electorally punish Trump and the republicans for this, or not? I’m just trying to get a gauge on where the line is.

They were the ones who asked the ATF review the legality of bump stocks. THEY ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM.

You got nothing from what I said. The item has never been the issue but the language of new laws. The weapon is the pen and the law.

Hard to see what he is doing to prevent it. Two years and the only crooks being charged with anything are his people. Like that would happen in an Obama administration.
Never heard of Banzai Attacks huh? I can't imagine why the Germans built all those pill boxes along the beaches. Spraying is for repelling massive attacks. <> How would those Civil war battles have turned out if one side had a mini gun?
