“We got a call of a robbery at the shell gas station just north of St. Johns on the north bound frontage of I-35,” said Lieutenant Ken Hubbs with the Austin Police Department. The victim told police they were assaulted and robbed inside their vehicle. Officials said a white female fled in a tan car and a black male suspect fled on foot... According to police the suspect attempted to cross the busy highway when he was hit by the 18-wheeler. “We don't have any witnesses besides the officer that saw him last,” said Lt Hubbs... Police are still seeking the driver of the 18-wheeler who they believe may not have known they hit anyone.

You’re right. The poor trucker will go through hell because of this. Paperwork and assorted reports up the wazoo, drug test, safety department torture. It never ends. I hope the catch the mudshark that got away.

There should be a bounty paid to the trucker equal to a percentage of the estimated cost of incarcerating the decease perp should he have lived. This perp would probably be worth, say, 35% of the estimate since he probably wouldn’t have done that much. Now a murder with a life sentence would maybe drop into the 3.5-7% range discounted, of course, to net present value.
I fel bad for the truck driver. Hope his rig wasnt damaged.
And if he manages to bag another one in the same fiscal period, he may avail himself of black loss carry-forward.
