Russia over the weekend mounted its most serious aggression against Ukraine since President Trump took office, and America punted.
Trumps outgoing ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, described the chain of events that led to the current standoff at the Black Sea as an outrageous violation of sovereign Ukrainian territory. She vowed that Washington and its friends would stand with Kiev.
So whats the plan? It is our expectation that our European partners will lead this effort through the Normandy Four format, Haley said, referring to a toothless Barack Obama-era gabfest that has mostly served to legitimize Moscows illegal annexation of Crimea and invasion of eastern Ukraine.
Trusting that diplomatic channel is like showing up to a gunboat fight without even a knife.
Consider what happened: Three Ukrainian vessels headed from Ukraines Black Sea port of Odessa to a Ukrainian port in the Sea of Azov. In the Kerch Strait, which separates the two bodies of water, Russian warships fired at the Ukrainians, injured crew members and seized the vessels.

Ukraine is declaring martial law.
In reality, it was Ukrainian fascists backed by Western intelligence agencies who overthrew a democratically elected European President in a violent coup.
Absent constitutional order and facing a fascist tyranny, the Crimean people invoked their natural right to self determination...and having established their own autonomy, held a legal referendum which led them to rejoin the Russian Federation.
The pseudo conservatives are the ones who either cannot follow this impeccable logic or willfully ignore/distort it to suit their purposes.
Bullies start with neighbors but their goal is world wide intimidation.
What would Russia say if Poland and blatic states blocked off Kaliningrad..
DU talking points on FR. you see this more and more.
disappointing.
It is none of our business. Let the other nations in the region deal with it.
Nonsense......nobody has the facts yet only the he said he said.....Russia has their story and Ukraine has theres. But this should not be surprising since Poroshenko said he’d blow up the bridge.....
Trump didn’t blink, as the article reads. He’s smart enough to know both Russia and Ukraine have been at it for years now and he’ll make whatever decision he thinks about this once the facts are known.....and it won’t be based on just this event.
So you believe we should go to war over The Ukraine? Thats what you are effectively saying.
Trumps blinked?
Europes fast asleep!
Russia "took" Crimea the same way the both the US and the EU accepted as legitimate in Kosovo, with a referendum.
It's always funny when the goose bitches about the gander doing the same thing the goose did.
Ha Ha
Thank YOU! Exactly right!
Poroshenko’s now owned by our former Administration as well as the cabinet.....not surprised an incident would happen now....Muller’s almost done and the deep swamp wants so badly to keep the Russia Propaganda on ‘Hot’......especially since G-20 coming up where Trump and Putin meet and Pence just paved the way at the Singapore gathering.
Dems just couldn’t handle it if, As with N.Korea, Trump were to establish anything concrete with Russia. I’d bet money Hillary and BO are behind this. They own Poroshenko.....can’t say that strong enough.
....”Ukraine is declaring martial law”....
That’s because the Ukraines are burning tires in the street again.....
LOL!!!
no. it isn’t.
Trump frames Russia’s aggression in Ukraine as a BOTH - SIDES ISSUE:
“We don’t like what’s happening either way. We don’t like what’s happening.”
The fact is we can stand with Russia and with Ukraine, simultaneously. The tiny strait with the Russian bridge is now Russian territory, but the Azov Sea belongs to both. The passageway needs to be opened to all traffic bound to and from Ukrainian ports. Cannot be blocked. If Ukraine wants to send gunboats through it they will have to comply with international law:
1. Ships and aircraft, while exercising the right of transit passage, shall:
(a) proceed without delay through or over the strait;
(b) refrain from any threat or use of force against the sovereignty, territorial integrity or political independence of States bordering the strait, or in any other manner in violation of the principles of international law embodied in the Charter of the United Nations;
(c) refrain from any activities other than those incident to their normal modes of continuous and expeditious transit unless rendered necessary by force majeure or by distress;
(d) comply with other relevant provisions of this Part.
