The Ukrainian president has proposed the imposition of martial law after Russian forces shot at and seized three Ukrainian navy vessels in the Black Sea, injuring six crew members according to Kiev, in a major escalation of tensions between the two countries.
On Monday, Ukrainian MPs will vote on whether to declare nationwide martial law in response to the attack following an emergency war cabinet held by the president, Petro Poroshenko. He said that the imposition of martial law would not imply a declaration of war and is only intended for defensive purposes.
Ukraine has also requested an emergency UN security council meeting in response to the incident.
Sunday was a day of rising tensions between the two countries, with hostilities focusing on the Kerch Strait, which connects the Sea of Azov with the Black Sea, over which Russia has constructed a bridge following its occupation of Crimea to create a direct link between the Russian mainland and the peninsula.
The FSB, Russias principal security agency, said its patrol boats had seized three naval vessels from Ukraine and used weapons to make them stop, adding that the boats had entered its territorial waters illegally.
In a televised war council meeting with the president, Ukrainian military commanders said 23 sailors had been taken captive by Russia, six were wounded in fighting, including two seriously.
Pavlo Klimkin, the Ukrainian minister of foreign affairs, said it was likely possible that Russia plans further acts of aggression at seas or on the ground and said Ukraine must be ready after the president recommended the

Speaking of fat hogs: When I was in Russia last summer I had a hard time finding a good selection of sausages to buy. Poland and the Baltics have a vastly superior selection of dried meats in their shops. You would think a huge country like Russia would have a good sausage supply chain but apparently, not.
Well I don’t know about sausage....but they’ve got a huge vast acreage of land in the south east with a million head of cattle as part of their efforts to make Russia self sufficient. It’s a stunning operation and supposedly the largest in the world.
In my opinion, Putin should drop a brigade of paratroopers on Kiev and bring the Ukraine back into the Rodina. The people will thank him in the end.
Time to arm those boats with anti-boat, anti-aircraft and anti-missile missiles and guns.
If fired upon, shoot to kill. Otherwise your Navy is just for Russian target practice.
Listen Porky, you have absolutely no chance of defeating Russia. Don’t poke the Russian bear. On the other hand, go for it. Russia will roll in, absorb you, throw out your fake Patriarch, and Ukraine will vanish from the earth. Think about it carefully.

Moscow has been busy building a bridge over the Kerch Strait and a railway upon that bridge. This bridge was deliberately built at a height that all but precludes Ukrainian commercial traffic from operating in the Sea of Azov, thus placing the port of Mariupol in economic jeopardy. And in another contravention of international law, it has declared that it will block any NATO attempt to send ships into the Sea of Azov, even if they are invited by Ukraine.

Cool, steal territory then you also get to steal the waters around it... when everyone gets used to you having the stolen territory and waters, just take some more land, and any waters associated with that, too. Wash. Rinse. Repeat... tomorrow Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania...
” I have no doubt POTUS will not stand for Putin blockading the Azov Sea and shooting up Ukrainian Navy boats.”
Sure he will.
We have no interests there.
The question rises...... what does Putin want for return of the ships?
If it wasn’t for that US supported coup Crimea would still be part of Ukraine. But I guess they didn’t think of that possible outcome.
Crimea was only part of Ukraine due to Khrushchev making it an administrative part of Ukraine as a political favor to his cronies. Crimea has tried to get out of being part of Ukraine a half dozen times since '91 but until the coup in Ukraine Russia wouldn't take sides on the issue of Crimea leaving the illegal seizure of Crimea from Russia in the first place.
Since the US, the EU, and the UN, all accept the "state" of Kosovo created by brute force and the votes of a half million quickly imported Muzzies, then questioning the right of Crimea to vote to leave Ukraine and become part of Russia is just blatant hypocrisy like the all the other hypocrisy that flows from the Hillybot and Democrap shills (including the democrap shills who pretend they're Republicans, Conservatives, Independents, or anything else).
Spew all the BS you like but people who bother to read and look at the facts know you're either a useful idiot of a paid shill.
Look around the world, there are a Hell of a lot of possible outcomes the same idiots who sponsored the coup in Ukraine didn’t consider.
You nailed it.
